Fatal Crash Sunday Near Dundee Leads to Arrest of Driver

Driver arrested over fatal traffic crash last weekend on Highway 99W south of Newberg.

(DUNDEE, Ore.) - 26-year old Leonel Zurita Loeza Police arrested the driver of a car involved in Sunday afternoon's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a Dayton woman.

Carma Smith died when a vehicle driven by 26-year old Leonel Zurita Loeza crossed the center grass median on Highway 99W near Dundee, flew into the air and struck her car. Troopers arrested the man upon his release Monday afternoon from a Portland-area hospital.

Newberg-Dundee Police Investigate Suspicious Circumstances at Local Company

A-dec, Inc. is Yamhill County's largest employer with over 950 employees.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Newberg-Dundee Police are continuing their investigation into a case involving suspicious circumstances at A-dec, a Newberg dental equipment manufacturing company.

Police say they were called Monday over a threat of a potentially violent act on the A-dec campus. Increased security and employee awareness measures were taken, according to Sgt. Tim Weaver with Newberg-Dundee Police.

Two Salem Men Lost in Boat Capsizing at Clatsop Spit

The incident ultimately left one Salem man dead, one Newberg man dead, and a second man from Salem missing.

(HAMMOND, Ore.) - A report of a capsized 16-foot aluminum vessel at Clatsop Spit near Hammond, Oregon, drew the response of U.S. Coast Guard rescue crews Saturday morning, who arrived on the scene at 10:45 AM.

The incident ultimately left one Salem man dead, one Newberg man dead, and a second man from Salem missing.

Newberg-Dundee Police Catch Alleged Rapist-Kidnapper

A Newberg man was arrested following an investigation into a report he allegedly abducted and attempted to rape a woman.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Handcuffs 29-year old Ignacio Benito-Bejarnano, of Newberg, was arrested Wednesday evening, and charged with second degree kidnapping and attempted first degree rape. Second degree kidnapping is a Measure 11 (mandatory minimum) crime. Attempted first degree rape is not.

The investigation began early Wednesday after the woman called police and reported that while driving away from delivering her children to a babysitter, she was confronted by Benito-Bejarnano, who had apparently hid in the back of her van.

George Fox Students Killed, Injured in Devastating Crash

The university Health and Counseling Center is providing counseling services and the campus ministries office is offering opportunities to pray with staff.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Cara Morgan An accident Sunday morning on highway 99W near Sherwood killed two people and injured three, all were students at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon.

Police say at 12:48 AM, four female students, all seniors, were driving south on 99W in a Ford Crown Victoria when a Ford Focus, driving north in the southbound lanes, rammed them head-on. One of the students, identified as 22-year-old Cara Morgan of Chandler, Arizona, died at the scene.

Robin E. Baker Named 12th President of George Fox University

Board promotes current provost, a historian with a decade of experience in higher education administration.

(NEWBERG) - George Fox University Logo George Fox University Provost Robin E. Baker, who has overseen a dramatic expansion of academic programs at the university since 1999, will be the institution’s next president, effective July 1st.

Baker, 49, was selected over the weekend by the George Fox Board of Trustees, which met on the Newberg campus for its annual spring meetings.

During his eight years, Baker has overseen the addition of six new undergraduate programs (engineering, political science, art, philosophy, nursing, and theater) and five graduate programs (doctor of ministry, doctor of management, MBA executive track, master in school counseling, and master in school psychology).

George Fox University President David Brandt Announces Retirement

Brandt to retire in June after nine years at Oregon’s third largest private university.

(NEWBERG) - David Brandt David Brandt, the 11th president of George Fox University, will retire June 30th after a four-decade career in Christian higher education. He announced his decision to the George Fox Board of Trustees at its annual fall meeting held Oct. 20th-22nd.

Now in his ninth year at George Fox, Brandt has guided the university in the expansion of programs, facilities and locations. During his tenure, the university has grown from 2,345 students to 3,185. \

George Fox Sets Record Undergraduate Enrollment Record

Fall enrollment hits 3,185 total, with 1,633 traditional undergraduates in Newberg.

(NEWBERG) - George Fox University The second-largest freshman class in George Fox University history helped the university this fall set a record for traditional undergraduate enrollment.

The university’ traditional undergraduate population grew to 1,633, up three percent from last year.

George Fox’s overall enrollment is 3,185, the second largest in school history. Last year, the university enrolled a record 3,210. The university has enjoyed dramatic growth since 1986, when 549 students attended.
