(NEWBERG, Ore.) - 29-year old Ignacio Benito-Bejarnano, of Newberg, was arrested Wednesday evening, and charged with second degree kidnapping and attempted first degree rape. Second degree kidnapping is a Measure 11 (mandatory minimum) crime. Attempted first degree rape is not.

The investigation began early Wednesday after the woman called police and reported that while driving away from delivering her children to a babysitter, she was confronted by Benito-Bejarnano, who had apparently hid in the back of her van.

Following a brief struggle, Benito-Bejarnano ran from the van, and the woman was not injured.

Over a dozen Newberg-Dundee police officers including detectives and uniform staff were involved in the case.

Benito-Bejarnano was held for $600,000 bail at the Yamhill County Corrections Facility in McMinnville. He is also being held by immigration officials on related charges. His next court date is scheduled for December 6th.
