Newberg-Dundee Police Investigate Suspicious Circumstances at Local CompanySalem-News.comA-dec, Inc. is Yamhill County's largest employer with over 950 employees.
(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Newberg-Dundee Police are continuing their investigation into a case involving suspicious circumstances at A-dec, a Newberg dental equipment manufacturing company. Police say they were called Monday over a threat of a potentially violent act on the A-dec campus. Increased security and employee awareness measures were taken, according to Sgt. Tim Weaver with Newberg-Dundee Police. "Sometime Tuesday morning, a second message was discovered hinting a bomb or other explosive device may have been placed on the property. A-dec officials decided to end the workday for the shift and canceled the afternoon-evening shift." He says Newberg Fire Department personnel and A-dec security officers assisted Newberg-Dundee officers in a search of the nearly dozen buildings on the campus. That lasted through Tuesday afternoon. No suspicious devices of any kind were found. A-dec's company property borders several Newberg Public Schools campuses. Weaver says no decisions have been reached over whether to remain in a modified lockdown Wednesday. He says that school officials will continue Tuesday's modified lockdown, eliminating outdoor activities and changing some bus schedules. Messages of the events were sent home with some students and other parents were notified by email. Parents are encouraged to contact their local schools for updates. A-dec staff is planning to begin a regular workday Wednesday, with some enhanced security in place and will remain the next few days. Employees have a hotline to call for information. A-dec, Inc. is Yamhill County's largest employer with over 950 employees. The campus is on the north side of Newberg and covers over 40 acres. The company was recently selected as one of Oregon's Most Admired Companies for 2007, ranking ninth from all industries and fourth for traditional manufacturers.
