Looming WOU Strike is Off

(Monmouth) - Western Oregon University sign Newsradio 1190 KEX says the 220 staff members at WOU are getting what they have been asking for.

A strike set for Wednesday at Western Oregon University is off. Both sides sat at a bargaining table over the weekend with the mediator and hammered out a new deal.

Teachers Strike at Western Oregon Closer to Becoming a Reality

Talks break-off Friday after five hours; Governor plans to meet with both sides on Wednesday

(MONMOUTH) - Western Oregon University sign Contract talks between Western Oregon administrators and faculty broke down on Friday, meaning the union set strike date of April 5th appears to soon become a reality.

WOU President John Minahan said the university has made every effort to bring the last bit of additional money it could find to this table. Apparently, it was not enough. The union is holding to its most recent verbal offer of 12 percent. We cannot increase our offer. Our final offer remains at 9.7 percent including full fringes and all benefits. Unfortunately, these talks appear to be closed. I regret this very much Minahan said.

Western Oregon Teachers Union Sets Strike Date

(MONMOUTH) - Western Oregon University sign The Western Oregon University Federation of Teachers has unanimously voted to set a teachers strike date of April 5th.

The decision followed a lengthy and very serious discussion of the possible ramifications of such a dramatic and unprecedented action.

At Monday's mediation session, the union offered a significant compromise on salary but WOU management refused to move off of their final offer.
