Western Oregon University Holding First Amendment Day Events

The story of nearly three centuries of banned or censored music in America happens Wednesday, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM in the Pacific Room of Werner University Center.

(Monmouth, Oregon) - To celebrate First Amendment Day, WOU Student Media is encouraging students, faculty, and area citizens to gather to protest and/or celebrate any topic in a demonstration of the First Amendment right to assemble peaceably.

The event will take place at noon on Wednesday at Werner University Center's Plaza.

Other First Amendment Day Events at WOU:

A moderated forum discussion of First Amendment rights on WOU's campus will be held on Wednesday, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in WUC's Oregon Room.

Participants include: Director of the First Amendment Center Gene Policinski, Judge Rex Armstrong of the Oregon Court of Appeals, WOU Speech Professor Molly Mayhead, Mike Heistand the author of "Law and the Student Press," ASWOU President Gerry Blakney, and Bever Davis, the chair of the Western-Monmouth-Independence Public-Educational-Government (WIM-PEG) cable access television station.

The discussion MAY include adult language and content.

The forum is free and open to the public.

Also, a critically acclaimed multi-media experience featuring an all-star cast of musicians will tell the story of nearly three centuries of banned or censored music in America on Wednesday, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM in the Pacific Room of Werner University Center.
