Off-duty Marion County Deputy Arrested Following Crash

Initial tests indicate that Parson's blood alcohol level was approximately .227

(SALEM, Oregon) - wrecked chevrolet cavalier Police arrested an off-duty Marion County deputy on DUII charges after a crash that left a man trapped in his wrecked vehicle, requiring extrication.

Initial tests indicate that 61-year old Dennis Parson's blood alcohol level was approximately .227; nearly three times the legal blood alcohol limit.

SELCO Employees Exceed Goal for Fall Food Drive

(EUGENE, Ore.) - SELCO Food Collection SELCO Community Credit Union employees reached out to their communities by donating nearly 6,000 pounds of food to four local food banks. With an initial goal of donating 3,500 pounds of food, SELCO employees exceeded this goal by more than 2,400 pounds.

A list of most-needed foods was published to all SELCO employees, each of whom were given a plastic shopping bag to fill and deposit in barrels placed throughout the branches and offices of SELCO Community Credit Union, its subsidiaries and business units. Food was collected and donated directly to the food bank closest to each branch. These included: NeighborImpact Food Bank (www.neighborimpact.org), Food for Lane County (www.foodforlanecounty.org), Linn Benton Food Share (www.csc.gen.or.us/foodshare.htm), and Marion Polk Food Share (www.marionpolkfoodshare.org).

Police Respond to Double Stabbing

Domestic dispute ends in attempted murder charges.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 27-year old Austin Emory Vanderpool Investigators with the Marion County Sheriff's Office say two people were hospitalized and a third arrested after a domestic dispute that erupted shortly after 7:45 p.m., Monday evening.

Don Thomson, spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff, says deputies responded to a home in the 4600 block of Selby Court NE in Salem on a report that two women had been stabbed.

High Speed Race of over 120 MPH North of Woodburn Leads to Two Arrest

The drivers did not know each other

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Left: Nicholas Phillips Right: Valentin Khalaman Two men involved in speed racing on Interstate 5 north of Woodburn Sunday morning both ended up back at a Salem-area jail after they were stopped and arrested following speeds that reach in excess of 120 mph.

On October 3, 2010 at approximately 10:45 a.m. Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper Andrew Goffrier was patrolling northbound on Interstate 5 near Woodburn in an unmarked OSP ADEP (Aggressive Driving Enforcement Program) patrol car. As Goffrier was driving in the right northbound lane near milepost 273 he saw a red 1994 BMW 325i car coming up from behind at a high rate of speed. The BMW, followed by a silver 2004 Dodge Neon, slowed down briefly as both vehicles passed the unmarked OSP car and then took off at speeds nearing 100 mph.

Detroit Stabbing Ends in Bloody Scene in Local Bar

A bloody night in the normally quiet town of Detroit, Oregon led to a stabbing, arrest, and recovery of a loaded gun in the vehicle of the stabbing victim.

(DETROIT, Ore.) - Stabbing scene at Cedar's Restaurant and Lounge in Detroit, Oregon A reported fight between friends in Detroit, Oregon led to a man entering Cedar's Restaurant and Lounge Friday night shortly after 9:00 p.m., with a serious stab wound to the arm. Dennis Osbourn had just sat down for dinner.

"There was a good amount of blood, and I guess it wasn't that life threatening but it sure looked like it. He dribbled all the way across the street into the bar and against the wall and then there was a puddle."

Marion County Begins Relocation of County Offices from Courthouse Square

The Public Works Planning relocation to the Silverton Road campus has been delayed by one day. All offices will reopen with full services, as planned, on Monday, August 23.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Marion County Courthouse Square Starting August 16, 2010, Marion County offices will begin the move from Courthouse Square to new temporary quarters.

"We are working at an accelerated pace to have all county offices moved by September 28," said county Chief Administrative Officer John Lattimer.

Off Duty Salem Cop Doubles as Hero at Detroit Lake

Three individuals worked together to rescue a drowning victim, one was a local Salem school resources officer.

(DETROIT LAKE) - Rescue at Detroit Lake, Oregon 15 August 2010 A 15-year old Portland youth was evacuated from Detroit Lake Sunday afternoon, following a near-drowning incident. Deputies from Marion County Sheriff's Marine Patrol, along with Detroit- Lyons Medics, responded to the Hoover boat ramp at about 2:45 p.m.

Don Thomson with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says as it turns out, one of the man's rescuers was an off-duty Salem Police officer.

The incident leading to his mortal injury or injuries, reportedly involved Haws being injured by a single inmate in a fight.

Another Marion County Inmate Dies in Custody

Three inmates died in the Marion County Jail between 25 March and 14 August- roughly four and a half months.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Officials say this man, 30-year old Jeremiah L. Upmeyer, who faced somewhat minor charges, hung himself in the Marion County Jail. Deputies say they found an inmate dead in his cell at the Marion County Jail this evening. This is the third death in the facility in less than five months.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Shooting investigation A report of a shooting in Salem at 3:45 a.m., Friday morning, led to response from sheriff's deputies, dispatched to a residence in the 4500 block of Juliana Loop, SE in Salem to investigate.
