(SALEM, Ore.) - Starting August 16, 2010, Marion County offices will begin the move from Courthouse Square to new temporary quarters. "We are working at an accelerated pace to have all county offices moved by September 28," said county Chief Administrative Officer John Lattimer. First to move will be Public Works Planning and Building Inspection. These services will be consolidated with other public works functions at the existing Public Works Silverton Road campus located at 5155 Silverton Road NE, Salem. The move is scheduled for Monday, August 16, through Friday, August 20. During the move Public Works Planning, Code Enforcement, Building Inspection, and Permits will maintain limited counter service at Courthouse Square on Monday, August 16, through Tuesday, August 17. Beginning Wednesday, August 18, counter service will be available at the Silverton Road campus. Some services may be limited while maps and files are moved. Staff recommends calling ahead to (503) 588-5038. The Public Works Planning relocation to the Silverton Road campus has been delayed by one day. Limited counter service will be available at Courthouse Square through Wednesday, August 18. Limited service will move to the Silverton Road campus on Thursday, August 19, through Friday, August 20. All offices will reopen with full services, as planned, on Monday, August 23.
There will be no interruption in building inspections already scheduled, or to on-line and telephone permit services. Code Enforcement will continue with minimal anticipated interruptions during the move. All offices will reopen with full services available on Monday, August 23, at the Silverton Road campus. Other confirmed moves include relocation of the District Attorney Criminal and Victim's Assistance Divisions to the Courthouse, which will take place in mid-September. To make room for the District Attorney, the Clerk's Office will move with the Assessor/Tax Offices to leased space located at 1115 Commercial Street NE, Salem. This move is scheduled to take place the last week of August. Additional leased space is being considered for remaining county offices in Courthouse Square. Office relocations were hastened by a preliminary engineering study that shows early signs of serious structural defects that make long term occupation of Courthouse Square unadvisable. Marion County and Salem Area Mass Transit District are awaiting a final engineering report, due in October, which will provide a full assessment of building defects, as well as options for remediation.
