Police in Salem Warning of Phishing Scam

The listed phone number on this particular message is no longer in service.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - salem police car The Salem Police Department would like to warn the public of a "Phishing" scam that criminals are using to try and obtain personal financial information.

The messages appear on e-mail or text messaging and appear to be from "security" and are entitled "ALERT." The text advises that "Your Bank of the Cascades account is closed due to unusual activity, call us at 8182928218."

Organizers with the state say the creation of this Website is in response to requests made by parents for a convenient way to gather information about a provider’s compliance history.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police As part of an aggressive and continuing effort to find men and women interested in law enforcement career opportunities, Oregon State Police rolled out a new recruiting web site today to help potential applicants learn who we are, what we are about, and understand the recruitment and testing process.

With the ongoing support of Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski and the legislative leadership, the Oregon State Police is keeping the wheels moving in an unprecedented, aggressive recruitment and training plan that includes the approved addition of 100 new trooper positions during the 2007 legislative session.

MySpace Strikes Agreement With State and National Governments

Oregon was among the first states to respond to reports that registered sex offenders were using MySpace.

(SALEM, Ore.) - MySpace page Attorney General Hardy Myers today announced Oregon’s participation in an agreement with MySpace to make significant steps to better protect children on its web site, including creation of a broad-based task force to explore and develop age and identity verification technology.

"This agreement is an important step toward a victory for social networking safety," Myers said. "We all want to protect our children from on-line sexual predators and inappropriate materials."

As it turns out a neighbor, the mother of a teen herself, was posing as a teen boy and communicating with Megan on MySpace. When the character turned on her, the 13-year old hung herself. Now her parents and bloggers all over the nation are demanding justice.
