(SALEM, Ore.) - Parents have a new tool to aid in making informed decisions about child care. The Oregon Child Care Division has launched a new Web site that allows parents to review the complaint history of child care providers. The Web site is located at ChildCareInOregon.org.

Organizers with the state say the creation of this Website is in response to requests made by parents for a convenient way to gather information about a provider’s compliance history.

"The new licensing system has the necessary technology, the information is public and subject to disclosure, and the goal of the Child Care Division is to ensure that parents have the information they need in a format that is most convenient to them," said Tom Olsen, administrator of the Child Care Division.

Olsen said the online system will contain information on complaints that have been investigated and found to be valid dating back to January 2004.

Complaint information is one portion of a provider’s complete compliance history, so Olsen encourages parents to gather as much information as possible about any provider they are considering.

The Child Care Division will continue to provide information by phone at their toll-free number: 1 800 556-6616.

“Informed parents are the best advocates for quality child care. Having access to complaint information in multiple formats will help working families make the best decision for their children,” Olsen said.
