Oregon Governor`s Driver Card is No Answer

The answer is enforcing the motor vehicle laws with real teeth, but more importantly to fund and maintain public mass transit and sidewalk/bike lane infrastructures.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Car being pulled over by police Governor Kulongoski has finally finished playing a game of "Chicken" with the Department of Homeland Security in regards to compliance with the REAL ID Act. Bully for him. He has decided that his posturing should not deprive legal citizens of Oregon the right to travel.

However, he continues to worry about the 'poor illegal' who would be unable to get a license. So he proposes a 'Driver card' that would not comply with the REAL ID act.

Federal Agents Raid Oregon Business Over Illegal Immigrants

The company could not comment until federal investigators provide more information.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Federal agents raided the offices of a Portland food processing plant Tuesday, over suspicions that the company hires and employs hundreds of illegal aliens.

It is reported that around 175 workers were taken into custody over suspicion of illegal immigration. They will be processed for possible deportation.

By making enforcement of immigration laws the highest priority and addressing all elements of comprehensive reform, the bipartisan immigration bill now under consideration by the Senate will help put an end to illegal immigration and keep the U.S. economy strong President Bush said.

Thatcher-Flores Join New National Immigration Reform Legislative Coalition

Local Republicans follow lead of Pennsylvania representative in fighting illegal immigration.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Republican legislators Kim Thatcher and Linda Flores As Congress prepares to embark on a new plan to deal with illegal immigrants State Representative Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer, Newberg, St. Paul) and State Representative Linda Flores (R-Clackamas) announce they’ve joined a new national coalition on immigration reform.

It’s called “State Legislators for Legal Immigration” and it kicked off today in 25 states around the country founded by Pennsylvania State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler County).

Oregon Study Finds That Federal Medicaid Rules Aimed at Illegal Immigrants Harm Vulnerable Citizens

The state study found that nearly two-thirds of those who were denied health services were children.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Anti-immigration protesters at a recent immigration rally in Salem, Oregon New federal rules that require Oregon to verify the identity and citizenship of individuals applying for Medicaid-funded programs have barred over 1,000 Oregonians, mostly children and citizens, from getting health care, a new report by the Department of Human Services finds.

More than 1,000 Oregonians, almost all of whom the State believes to be US citizens, were denied health care services because they were unable to comply with restrictive paperwork requirements created by the federal Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (DRA).

Immigration Rally in Salem Draws Thousands

Most of the activists say they are trying to make an impression on the U.S. government that they want a path to citizenship, they want to be legal.

(SALEM) - Immigration rally, Salem, Oregon 5107 Demonstrators came out in force under good weather in Salem today, showing the determination of people passionate about immigration issues. They are demanding rights for 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

Salem joined other cities around the nation today as activists waved red white and blue. The slogan was, "Comprehensive Immigration reform Now." It was a line that sounded like either side could have used it.

Bush Signs New Border Fence Into Law

Critics call it is a reincarnation of the Iron Curtain, Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, and The Great Wall of China.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - U.S. Mexico border A 700-mile long fence along the Mexican border was approved today at the nation's capitol. The President says the wall will help to deter illegal immigration from the countries south of the United States.

Bush signed the bill into law at a White House ceremony. He says the planned barrier will be a double fence with a strip in the middle where border guards can patrol.

The high-tech wall will include surveillance cameras, infrared sensors, satellites and ground radar.

Oregon Medicaid Programs to Start Asking for Proof of Citizenship on September 1st

Under the new guidelines, more kids and families in Oregon will be sick and untreated.

(SALEM) - Immigration rally attendees Oregonians applying for Medicaid programs will be asked to provide evidence of citizenship beginning Sept. 1st, Oregon Department of Human Services officials said today. The requirement is part of a new federal law, the Deficit Reduction Act, passed earlier this year by Congress.

ICE Arrests About 2,000 Illegal Immigrants

(BOSTON) - A swarm of federal immigration agents sped silently, headlights off, down a Boston side street early Wednesday and surrounded an apartment house.

"Police! Policia! Police!" yelled Daniel Monico, a deportation officer, holding his badge to a window where someone had pulled back the curtain. "Open the door!"

Moments later, agents led a dazed-looking Jose Ferreira Da Silva, 35, out in handcuffs. The Brazilian had been arrested in 2002 and deported, but had slipped back into the country. He now faces up to 20 years in prison.

In a blitz that began May 26th, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested nearly 2,100 illegal immigrants across the country. Officials said the raids are aimed at child molesters, gang members and other violent criminals, as well as people like Da Silva who sneaked back into the country after a judge threw them out.

The crackdown is called Operation Return to Sender.

Schwarzenegger to Order Troops to Border

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) - Schwarzenegger visiting the California National Guard Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger agreed Thursday to send the California National Guard to the Mexican border, ending a 17-day standoff with the Bush administration.

The two sides had been at odds over whether California Guardsmen would join the effort to bolster the Border Patrol and who would pay for it.

They reached an agreement under which California will contribute about 1,000 Guardsmen for border duty and the federal government will pick up the full cost, Schwarzenegger said.

"It is not my preference to send the National Guard, but there's an important need to protect the border," he said.
