Helicopter Crashes at Hillsboro Airport

At this time the cause of the crash is unknown

(Hillsboro, Ore.) - Salem-News.com At 6:03 Hillsboro Fire and Rescue was dispatched by Washington County 9-1-1 to the Hillsboro Airport with the report of a helicopter down. Upon arrival the crew of Engine 5 found a helicopter on the ground near runway 30.

The pilot, who was the only occupant of the helicopter, had exited the downed aircraft before the engine arrived.

Hillsboro Police Exchange Gunfire With Suspect During Welfare Check

The officer and the suspect both survived the shooting.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Police shooting Hillsboro police and Washington County Sheriff's deputies were involved in a shooting today around 4:50 p.m., while responding to a welfare check of a distraught man in the 600 block of north 1st Avenue in Hillsboro.

Police say the subject's therapist called police asking for the check because of his recent agitated mental state.

Somber Homecoming for NW Soldier Killed in Afghanistan (VIDEO)

Sgt. Elijah J Rao was killed by an improvised explosive device, or roadside bomb, in Afghanistan.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - military funeral A somber and reverent group was on hand for the arrival of a local soldier December 12, 2009, who was killed fighting in Afghanistan. The family of Elijah J Rao says he will be sorely missed.

We first reported on this loss the day after it happened when the family released word of Elijah's death. They said at the time it is the last knock a family ever wants to hear at their door.

Frozen Pipe Calls Keep Firefighters Busy

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue offers tips for residents who want to avoid frozen water pipes.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Two Hillsboro firefighters push water from an unheated warehouse flooded by a broken sprinkler pipe. Fire officials in Hillsboro say a flurry of broken water pipes in homes and businesses frozen by the week's surprisingly cold temperatures, prompted citizens to call firefighters for help.

Storm Smith with Hillsboro Fire, says once the temperatures rose near 32-degrees on Tuesday and the broken pipes began thawing, firefighters began responding to calls for assistance.

Hillsboro Police Investigate Fatal Shooting at Hair Salon

The names of the parties involved will not be released until at least Monday, pending notification of relatives.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Hillsboro Police were called to a fatal shooting today at the Great Clips Hair Salon, located at 22075 NW Imbrie Drive.

Hillsboro Police Lt. Michael Rouches says officers responded to a report of shots fired today at 4:30 p.m. He says upon arrival, officers discovered a 20-year old female employee of the salon shot dead in a break room area of the shop.

Fires Hit Two Hillsboro Residences Within 25-Minutes

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue wants to remind residents to keep all combustibles away from any heat-producing device, such as stoves, ovens and space heaters whether they are operating or not.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Two unrelated fires within 25-minutes heavily damaged two separate residents in Hillsboro Friday afternoon. The largest, a two-alarm fire, gutted a two-story northwest Hillsboro home killing an occupant's dog.

Storm Smith with Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, says firefighters were dispatched to 537 NW Connell Avenue at 4:12 p.m.

Police Say Driving Rampage Ends in Fatal Shots

Police say a man shot at police after crashing into cars and shooting an innocent bystander.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Hillsboro Police say a report of a man shooting a gun out of his vehicle after ramming into several other vehicles, ultimately led to a series of incidents that left one bystander and the suspect, mortal injured from gunshot wounds.

The call came in Saturday at 1:24 p.m. and was reported in the area of SE Baseline Street and SE 10th Avenue in Hillsboro, according to Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington Co. Sheriff's Office, the agency investigating the police involved shooting.

Two Oregon Men Die as Helicopter Crashes in Field

The helicopter was owned by Hillsboro Aviation and was used to train new pilots.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Helicopter crash in Oregon 9-20-09 A pilot and a student pilot were killed when their helicopter crashed and burst into flames Sunday at 1:09 p.m.

Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, says deputies responded to the Fern Hill area south of Forest Grove after a report of the helicopter crashing in a field.

Hillsboro Man Found Deceased Near Crashed Motorcycle

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Fatal crash Deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a motorcycle over the embankment on Germantown Road near the intersections of Old Germantown and Skyline.

Lt. Mary Lindstrand, Public Information Officer with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says a passer-by noticed a motorcycle over the embankment Sunday morning just before 9:30 a.m.

Fire Displaces Hillsboro Couple

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue reminds all residents to be aware of possible overloading of electrical circuits. And encourages home owners to unplug appliances when they are not in use.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Fire in Hillsboro, Oregon 7-16-09 Early Thursday evening the neighbors of Jesse and Sonja Sanders called 9-1-1 to report a fire at the Sanders home on 2107 SE Currin Lane in Hillsboro.

Bruce Montgomery with Hillsboro Fire, says the Sanders had left for church just minutes before smoke was spotted coming from a window on the south side of the house. Hillsboro fire crews were dispatched at 7:27 p.m.
