(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Early Thursday evening the neighbors of Jesse and Sonja Sanders called 9-1-1 to report a fire at the Sanders home on 2107 SE Currin Lane in Hillsboro.

Bruce Montgomery with Hillsboro Fire, says the Sanders had left for church just minutes before smoke was spotted coming from a window on the south side of the house.

Hillsboro fire crews were dispatched at 7:27 p.m.

"The first arriving engine company from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue's Brookwood Station #2 arrived at 7:31 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the windows of the house. The incident commander called for a first alarm response which brought an additional two engine companies and one truck company to the scene."

Montgomery says upon forced entry, the crew discovered active fire and a blanket of smoke from floor to ceiling on the main level of the approximately 950 square feet home.

"Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze and fire damage was confined to the room of origin with extensive smoke damage to the entire home. Damage is estimated at $40.000," He says nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

The cause is under investigation at this time. Montgomery said, "Hillsboro Fire and Rescue reminds all residents to be aware of possible overloading of electrical circuits. And encourages home owners to unplug appliances when they are not in use."
