Gas Prices Continue Record Setting Pace as Memorial Day Approaches

Each day seems to bring new record highs at the pumps. Will we see a national average of $4 per gallon for regular unleaded by Memorial Day?

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Memorial Day weekend, the traditional start of the summer driving season, is less than two weeks away, and gas prices continue to set new record highs almost every day.

AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "The statewide average for regular unleaded in Oregon jumps eight cents this week to $3.75, while the national average soars 12 cents to $3.73. The national average is just two cents shy of the peak price of $3.75 predicted by AAA earlier this year when crude oil surpassed $100 per barrel."

Slight Relief at Pumps Probably Won`t Last as Crude Sets Record

Gas prices have eased off of record highs in the last few days, but don't expect this little bit of relief to last.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Gas pump attendent in Salem, Oregon The statewide average for regular unleaded in Oregon increases almost a cent this week to $3.67, while the national average is up just three-tenths of a cent to $3.61. The main reason gas prices didn't increase as fast in the past week is that the price of crude dropped to around $110 per barrel last week.

Oregon`s Gas Prices Reach New Record Highs

More pain at the pumps as the Oregon and national averages for regular unleaded reach new record highs today.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas station nozzle Crude oil prices are back up in record territory of about $113 per barrel amid concerns about global supply.

"Gas prices are soaring with the national average and the Oregon average at new record highs." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says the statewide average for regular unleaded in Oregon is up seven cents in the past week to $3.492, while the national average jumps up five-and-a-half cents to $3.386.

Oregon - Nationwide Gas Prices Hit Record Highs

In Salem, the average price hit a new record high today at $3.45 a gallon.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - pumping gas Here we go again.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded hit record highs in parts of Oregon today, as light, sweet crude hit a record $111.76 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Monday. The average price in Oregon hit a record high this morning at $3.49 a gallon.

Diesel prices are also at record prices in some parts of the state. However in Salem, the average price is down 8-cents from it's record high at $4.07 a gallon.

Oregon Gas and Diesel Prices Fall Slightly

However there are fears that gas and diesel prices could go over $4 a gallon before Memorial Day.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - fuel pump Gas and diesel prices in Oregon are continuing their downward trend. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in the state dropped another 3-cents over the past week to $3.40, while average diesel prices fell only a penny to $3.97 a gallon. In Salem, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is down 3-cents to $3.35.

Analysts fear that average gas prices could vault close to $4 a gallon as Memorial Day (May 26th) approaches, and as refineries make the shift over to more expensive summer-grade fuel.

Gas Prices Back Off Slightly for Spring Break

Gas prices often climb during Spring Break, but both the national and Oregon averages are down slightly this week, dropping a few cents from last week's record highs.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gads station attendent "Gas prices are coming down a few cents from the record highs we set in the past week." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "Even though it's spring break, a time when prices normally rise, the Oregon average for regular unleaded is down three cents this week to $3.43.

The national average also drops three cents to $3.26. The Oregon and national averages are both below their record highs of $3.462 for Oregon set on March 17th, and $3.285 for the national average set on March 16th.

Diesel Hits Record Highs in Oregon - Nationwide

Salem, Portland, and Medford all hit all time high average diesel prices today.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - New Diesel rules The pain at the pumps continues -- especially for those who fill up with diesel.

The national average for a gallon of diesel went over $4 today to $4.03.

In Oregon, the average statewide price was just barely under the $4 a gallon mark at $3.99, a new record high for the state. However some areas of the state are seeing average Diesel prices over $4 a gallon.
