Mar-20-2008 06:32TweetFollow @OregonNews Diesel Hits Record Highs in Oregon - NationwideKevin Hays Salem-News.comSalem, Portland, and Medford all hit all time high average diesel prices today.
(SALEM, Ore. ) - The pain at the pumps continues -- especially for those who fill up with diesel. The national average for a gallon of diesel went over $4 today to $4.03. In Oregon, the average statewide price was just barely under the $4 a gallon mark at $3.99, a new record high for the state. However some areas of the state are seeing average Diesel prices over $4 a gallon. Medford-Ashland and Eugene-Springfield are at $4.01, Portland-Vancouver is just at the $4 mark, while Salem is just under $4 at 3.98 a gallon. Oklahoma has the nation's cheapest average price for diesel at $3.84, while New York has the highest at $4.33 a gallon. Analysts say new federal low sulfur guidelines for diesel fuel used in newer vehicles, and a heavy demand for diesel fuel in Europe have caused the prices to rise. Salem-News.com found the highest diesel price in the Salem-Keizer area at the Mission Street Shell at $4.10 a gallon. The Pilot Travel Center in Brooks had the lowest price at $3.73 a gallon. To all:' As you "feel the pain" in both pocket and brain, as you "fill up" --remember these intolerable costs come very directly from Reagan-era "supply-side" economics and from the "unsustainable" costs of the "preemptive" attack on Iraq. Globalization, "free trade", deregulation and privatization all play really considerable part, too, in the damagin debacle hurting all of us. For detail and documentation seek out previous Op Eds on these topics, accessed via STAFF-review and "Written by.." line there. OR check out any of hundreds of sources on the Internet, stating precisely these same points NOW.
