WOU College Democrats Host Gubernatorial Debate

(MONMOUTH) - Democratic challengers to the Governor's seat, former Oregon State Treasurer Jim Hill, and Lane County Commissioner Pete Sorenson The Western Oregon University College Democrats will host democratic candidates for governor of Oregon in a Town Hall Debate in Werner University Center on Thursday, April 27th, at 7:00 PM. Capitol Rally Kicks Off Child Abuse Awareness Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month in Oregon

(SALEM) - A rally on the capitol steps Tuesday marks the beginning of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Marion County Sheriff Raul Ramirez says there is still a long way to go in healing the problem.

"It's still a problem and government alone can't solve this problem by ourselves. It has to be a hollistic approach; the whole community."

The signs of child abuse can be hard to detect, but experts say the worst circumstances can sometimes be avoided if more crimes against children are reported.

Math Competition at McKay High This Weekend

(SALEM) - McKay High School McKay High School will host the annual 24-Challenge Competition this Saturday this Saturday April 8th. The contest will begin at approximately 9:00 AM and will conclude with trophy and ribbon presentations by noon.

Around 175 Salem area fourth and fifth-graders will compete in the tournament with at least 125 McKay students facilitating the event.

Women`s Military History Week Proclaimed by Governor

(SALEM) - Governor Theodore Kulongoski has signed a proclamation designating the week of March 20th-24th, as Women`s Military History Week in Oregon.

The week is dedicated to recalling, celebrating and saluting the many contributions of American women serving their country in uniform. For well over two centuries, in times of peace and war, generations of women have answered the call of duty, service and country.

Since the beginning of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, between 28,000 and 37,000 female American service members have been deployed annually to serve in harm`s way.

Lincoln County Holding School Shooting Drill During Spring Break

Specific information on the drill will be provided to area radio stations at the start of the drill. The exact date, time and location will not be announced to the public prior to that.

(LINCOLN CITY) - beach Heading to the coast to get away during spring break???

Well, don`t be shocked or alarmed if you see a bunch of police and fire vehicles heading for, or outside a school in Lincoln County.

Lincoln County police agencies, the Lincoln County School District, Oregon State Police, area fire departments, and other county public safety agencies will be participating in a coordinated emergency school shooting drill at one of Lincoln City's schools during spring break, March 20th through 24th.

Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival Bloom Begins Monday

The event runs through April 20th

(WOODBURN) - Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival Oregon's largest tulip farm, Wooden Shoe in Woodburn, is anticipating a colorful spring festival.

The 21st annual Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival kicks-off Monday.

There are more than 50 acres of tulips and daffodils to bloom.

The question everyone asks at this time of year is "When will the tulips bloom?"
