Oregon Wine Industry Comes Together to Support Active Wine Tourism

The five-day tour is unique because it gets people out of their cars, away from tasting rooms, and into the vineyards themselves.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Wine glass Wineries, wine-related businesses, and tourism associations in Oregon have rallied behind a new effort to promote active wine tourism in the Oregon wine country. So far, 14 organizations have signed up to sponsor the Oregon Wine Adventure, a new multisport wine tour in the area.

"This is a brand new concept in Oregon and, as far as we can tell, in the wine industry worldwide," explains Jeannine Heidenreich of the Convention & Visitors Association of Lane County, one of the original supporters of the concept.

Barack Obama Visits Oregon Cities (VIDEO)

Obama's Oregon visit concluded just recently with his visit to Eugene where the "Stand For Change" Rally was held at the University of Oregon.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Bill Richardson and Barack Obama Barack Obama came to Oregon today, with stops in Eugene, Salem and Portland. His highly anticipated visit seemed to go off without a hitch and it featured a bonus in Portland in the form of a personal endorsement from Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico.

"Whether it was as a congressman or cabinet secretary, ambassador or governor, there are few more distinguished public servants in America than Governor Richardson, and I am deeply honored to have his support," Senator Obama said.

Walker Case to be Heard by Oregon Appeals Court Thursday

Lane County's judicial system and Eugene Police are at the center of the argument that claims key witnesses were not heard, and the wrong man was convicted.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Darrell Sky Walker An Oregon Appeals Court in Salem will hear arguments Thursday over the manslaughter conviction of an African American student named Darrell Sky Walker who is currently serving time in prison.

An attorney representing Walker says key witnesses Eugene Police couldn't find would have placed blame for the death on J.D. Beall, a friend of Walker's who was with him that night.

No Relief in Sight from Skyrocketing Gas Prices

Oregon's average for regular unleaded is just a few cents shy of the record high set last May.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gad pump handle "Here it is early March, and the price of gas is just a few cents away from the record highs set last May." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "The Oregon average shoots up another 11 cents this week to $3.36, on top of a 16-cent hike the week before.

The national average is up two-and-a-half cents to $3.17, after an 11-cent increase the week before. The price of crude oil has been in record territory, passing $103 per barrel in trade Monday."

Oregon`s Lorraine Kerwood Named Winner of National Hometown Hero Award

Kerwood Will Receive $100,000 for the Charity of Her Choice.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - Eight years ago, Lorraine Kerwood turned a passion for tinkering with and repairing electronics into a flourishing passion for helping others.

She established an electronics recycling and distribution center, NextStep, which brings refurbished computers and electronics to disadvantaged communities. Volvo today announced that Kerwood, of Eugene, Oregon, has been named one of the top three winning heroes in the 6th Annual Volvo for life Awards. Kerwood is being recognized in the program's Environment category and will receive a $100,000 contribution to the charity of her choice.

Oregon Average for Gas Rises Above National Price

The national average continues to decline, but here in Oregon pump prices are on the rise.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas station "Oregon's statewide average for regular unleaded is up this week, while the national average continues to decline." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "

The Oregon average increases three-and-a-half cents to $2.98, while the national average drops nearly two cents to $2.96, and is at its lowest level in more than three months. Both the Oregon and national averages are less than $3 per gallon for the third week in a row."
