Peru Earthquake Kills More Than 300, Injures Thousands

The last time a quake of magnitude 7.0 or larger struck Peru was in 2005 when a 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocked Peru's northern jungle, killing four people.

(LIMA, Peru) - peru quakes image An earthquake off the coast of central Peru Wednesday evening with a registered magnitude 7.5 on the Richter Scale, has devastated several Peruvian cities killing at least 337 people in toppled buildings.

A 6.0 aftershock struck at 6:35 AM this morning, 35 miles southwest of Ica, Peru.

The towns of Pisco, Chincha in Peru's southern coastal region are said to be in ruins.

7.5 Earthquake Strikes Peru, West Coast Tsunami Warning Issued

West coast residents should not be in danger of a tsunami, but it may be a good idea to stay off the beach.

(LIMA, Peru) - Downtown Lima, Peru An earthquake off the coast of central Peru Wednesday evening with a registered magnitude 7.5 on the Richter Scale, has left buildings collapsed and people there shaken.

A tsunami warning has been issued that affects Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia.

A tsunami watch has been issued for for Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico and Honduras. A tsunami advisory has been issued for Hawaii.

4.5 Quake Jolts Los Angeles Area Residents

There are no reports of injuries or major damage.

(LOS ANGELES) - LA quake image A moderate earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area early Thursday morning, shaking residents out of bed and knocking some items off shelves.

According to the USGS the magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck just before 1:00 AM about 4 miles northwest of Chatsworth.

The quake had a depth of 3.4 miles.

7.5 Magnitude Quake Rocks Indonesia`s Capital

There were no immediate reports of damage.

(JAKARTA, Indonesia) - USGS earthquake image A strong undersea earthquake shook Indonesia's capital early on Wednesday, violently shaking homes and tall buildings and sending frightened residents fleeing into the streets.

The magnitude of 7.5 quake was centred 65 miles east of Jakarta at a depth of 179 miles, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says the quake was too deep to generate a large tsunami wave.

Japan Rocked by Powerful Earthquake; Aftershocks

At least seven killed, 800 injured, and thousands homeless.

(TOKYO) - Japan quake image At least seven people died and more than 800 others were injured when a powerful earthquake struck the north-west coast of Japan Monday morning, sparking a blaze at the world's biggest nuclear power station and flattening dozens of buildings.

Series of Small Quakes Rattle Mid-Willamette Valley

(SALEM, Ore. ) - valley quakes image A series of small earthquakes rattled throughout the mid-Willamette Valley this week.

The latest quake, a magnitude 2.0, occurred at 5:55 AM Friday morning one mile ENE of Mt. Angel. It had a depth of 14 miles.

On Wednesday, a magnitude 2.1, occurred at 9:19 AM one mile NNW of St. Paul. It had a depth of just over 12 miles.

Four Earthquakes Shake Southern Oregon Wednesday

No damage or injuries were reported.

(LAKEVIEW, Ore.) - oregon earthquake map A series of small earthquakes shook southern Oregon Wednesday.

The first, a magnitude 2.6, occurred at 2:32 PM, and was centered 7 miles SE of Lakeview. The quake had a depth of 2.1 miles.

The second, a magnitude 3.0, occurred at 6:56 PM, and was centered 15 miles SSW of Lakeview. The quake had a depth of 20.8 miles. The most recent quake, a magnitude 2.5, struck at 9:57 PM, and was centered 20 miles SSW of Lakeview. It had a depth of 20 miles.

No Tsunami Warning was issued for the West Coast.

The first, a magnitude 5.2, occurred at 12:50 AM, and had a depth of 5.6 miles.

The second, a 4.5 magnitude occurred at 1:07 AM, and had a depth of 6.4 miles. The latest, a magnitude 2.7 occurred at 1:18 AM, and had a depth of 3.2 miles.
