Sheriff Bob Wolfe says the fire started when shots were fired into a tree stump.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Polk County investigators say a bullet from this rifle started the wildland fire near Dallas, Oregon The Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspect today in the wildland fire that has burning since Saturday, scorching over 400 acres of land near Dallas.

Tips Sought on 1500 Road Fire in Polk County‏

The Oregon State Police and Polk County Sheriff's Office are coordinating with the Department of Forestry on the investigation.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - A 300-acre fire is burning along a logging road known as "1500 Road" in Polk County. The wildfire is burning about 10 miles southwest of the community of Dallas. Department of Forestry firefighters, fire engines and helicopters are fighting the fast-moving blaze, which is being driven by strong easterly winds.

As firefighters battle the blaze, investigators with state forestry are seeking details about a black, medium-sized SUV that was seen near the junction of 1500 Road and 1430 Road in the Bald Mountain area of Polk County around noon on Saturday.

Oregon Soldiers Body Returns Home Today

Cpl. Kory D. Wiens, 20, of Independence, Ore. died July 6th of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Muhammad Sath, Iraq.

(DALLAS, Ore. ) - Kory Wiens photo The body of Army Corporal Kory Wiens will arrive at Corvallis Municipal Airport today at about 11:15 AM.

A procession will follow to Dallas Mortuary Chapel, 287 SW Washington St. Dallas, Ore.

The public is welcome to attend the arrival and participate in the procession.

Police Need Help in Locating Teen Bank Robber

The robber is described as a white male in his late teens around 6’0.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - robbery investigation image Police are asking for your help in locating a teenage male who robbed a Dallas credit union on Tuesday.

Dallas police responded just after 4:15 PM to the OSU Credit Union on Orchard Drive.

Employees told police the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Polk County Deputy Survives Multiple Rollover Crash

Deputy Williams had a little luck of the Irish with him today.

(DALLAS, Ore. ) - Polk deputy car wrecked A Polk county deputy sheriff was injured at 8:20 AM after his patrol vehicle rolled several times into a field after he took evasive action to avoid another vehicle on Hwy 99W near Orrs Corner Road, 2 miles south of Rickreall in Polk County.

Deputy John Williams, 42 years, was responding to a report of a reckless driver several miles ahead of him.

The deputy was dispatched to a report of a silver jeep Cherokee that reportedly was crossing the center line numerous times and had nearly hit a car head-on.

Police say a search of the man's home revealed a loaded handgun, drugs and paraphernalia.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Carlos Ramirez Photo: Polk County Sheriff Polk County Sheriff's deputies took advantage of a traffic stop this week, serving a search warrant on a driver they pulled over Wednesday afternoon on Highway 22 near 50th Avenue in Dallas.

Around 3:20 PM Wednesday, a maroon Acura driven by 23-year old Carlos Ramirez was stopped by deputies who realized that the driver had a warrant for his arrest issued by the Polk County Inter-agency Narcotics Team. (POINT) The driver of this vehicle who was suspected of manufacturing/selling drugs.

Former Bookkeeper Gets Year in Jail for Stealing Student Body Funds

Marcelina Cedillo used the student body funds to gamble at the Spirit Mountain Casino.

(DALLAS) - On Friday, Monmouth resident 51-year-old Marcelina Cedillo, appeared in Polk County Circuit Court and was sentenced on a charge of Aggravated Theft in the First Degree by Judge Horner.

Between August of 2005 and April of 2006 she embezzled more than $40,000 from student accounts.

The theft was discovered when school district audit procedures revealed discrepancies between receipts and deposits.

Polk Inmate Walks Away From Work Program

The inmate is not considered dangerous to the public.

(DALLAS) - Vencen Emerald Page A sentenced inmate escaped from custody in Polk County this morning at approximately 8:00 AM. 19-year old Vencen Emerald Page ran on foot after being released from the jail facility and transferred to the inmate work release supervisor.

Page was serving 120 days on a probation violation for the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. He was scheduled for release on 04/09/2007.
