Weyerhaeuser Announces Closure of Mills in Oregon and Oklahoma

The company has closed 10 wood products manufacturing facilities this year and virtually all sites are experiencing reduced operations.

(Salem, Oregon) - Weyerhaeuser logo Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) today announced it will close its iLevel® lumber mills in Wright City, Okla., and Dallas, Ore., effective immediately. The announcement will affect approximately 307 employees.

Man Dies in Late Afternoon Crash Near Dallas (PHOTOS)

The fatal traffic crash happened on Highway 223, between Dallas and Highway 22.‏

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Fatal crash Oregon State Police say a Dallas-area man died and three other people were seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 223 about one-half mile south of Highway 22.

Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation and Highway 223 re-opened about five hours after the crash.

OSP Sergeant Derek Bischoff says the crash happened at approximately 4:20 PM, when a 1994 Eagle Vision four-door driven by 53-year old Domenic Fagundes of Grand Ronde, was southbound on Highway 223 near Fir Villa Road when it crossed the centerline and collided nearly head-on with a northbound 2001 Toyota Corolla driven by 27-year old Adam Raymond Schott of Dallas.

Salem Man Faces Homicide Charge Over Fatal Crash

The crash that claimed the life of Dallas woman happened on Highway 22W west of Salem.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fatal crash on Oregon Hwy 22 11-21-08 Oregon State Police, working in conjunction with the Polk County District Attorney's Office, is continuing the investigation into a Friday afternoon three vehicle crash on Highway 22W west of Salem that resulted in the death of a 52-year old Dallas-area woman. One driver was taken into custody and was lodged this morning on multiple charges at Polk County Jail.

FBI Seeks Missing Girl From Dallas 14 Years After Disappearance

FBI and Father of Ashlyn Wilson Mark Her 14th Birthday.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Thursday, November 20th 2008, marks Ashlyn Wilson’s 14th birthday. She has been missing since she was an infant. The FBI holds a federal fugitive warrant for her mother, Tara Suzanne Wilson, and agents are still, despite the years, actively pursuing this case.

To this end, the FBI is featuring this case in the fugitive section of its national web site at fbi.gov/wanted.htm and on its local home page at fbi.gov today.

The FBI's Beth Anne Steele in Portland, says Ashlyn was born in Dallas, Oregon. After her birth, her father, Dan Wilson fought for legal custody. (Although Dan and Tara Wilson share the same last name, they were never married.) Tara Wilson failed to appear at a series of legal hearings in 1994, and she fled with Ashlyn 1995. Although the courts later awarded full custody to Dan Wilson, he has never seen his daughter.

Salem TV Station KWVT Will Cover Summerfest

KWVT is Salem's locally owned and operated broadcast television station that is available to over 200,000 residents.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The staff at Salem's only locally operated broadcast television staion, KWVT channel 17, says they are proud to bring their viewers "Summerfest 2008" from the heart of the Willamette Valley recorded is downtown Dallas July 26th.

Station General Manager Ken Lewetag says KWVT will broadcast the event Saturday, August 3rd at 8:00 PM.

"Summerfest, sponsored by the Dallas Area Chamber of Commerce, brings a truly community event and KWVT is proud to televise it. This is the first time that Summerfest will be broadcast. so please watch a truly local event only on KWVT," Lewetag said.

Woman Killed by Falling Tree in Grande Ronde

The woman who died was a dump truck driver scheduled to be working in the Grand Ronde area all week.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Deputies in Polk County say a woman in the Grande Ronde area died just after midnight when a tree unexpectedly fell on top of a truck and camper that she was inside of.

The Polk County Sheriffs' Office responded to the scene at the Wandering Spirit RV Park in Grand Ronde, Oregon at 12:15 AM, according to Sheriff's Office Spokesman Dean Bender.

Former OLCC Retailer Arrested on Multiple Counts of Aggravated Theft

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Oregon liquor store owner 57-year old Michael Gene Mollgaard now faces multiple aggravated theft charges A Dallas, Oregon man was arrested by Oregon State Police Wednesday for unlawfully keeping approximately $180,000.00 of Oregon Liquor Control Commission liquor sales at his Dallas-area store.

57-year old Michael Gene Mollgaard now faces multiple aggravated theft charges over the allegations. Mollgaard was arrested on ten counts of first-degree Aggravated Theft following an indictment by the Polk County Grand Jury.
