Brooke Wilberger Murder Suspect Faces New Charges in Oregon

Brooke Wilberger disappeared in 2004.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A new indictment has been brought against Joel Patrick Courtney, a suspect in the abduction and murder of college student Brooke Wilberger who disappeared from a Corvallis apartment complex May 24th, 2004.

Courtney faces new charges, according to a New Mexico jail Web site. He remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., awaiting trial for kidnapping and rape charges.

Corvallis Man Assaults Female with a Knife

The victim was able to escape serious injury.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Brian Shire photo Corvallis police arrested a Corvallis man Tuesday night, for assaulting a former female co-worker at her home with a knife.

Corvallis police responded to the victims apartment in the 600 block of NW 18 street just after 10:00 PM.

An investigation revealed that 52-year-old Brian Shire entered the victims apartment through an unlocked front door.

Oregon State Luau will Bring Island Magic to Oregon on Saturday

A concert, featuring Polynesian music by Fiji starts at 9:30 PM.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - OSU luau dancers Oregon State University students are once again bringing a little bit of the islands to Oregon with the university’s 52nd annual Luau on Saturday in Gill Coliseum.

The tradition has grown into one of OSU’s largest and most successful campus celebrations, annually attracting more than 1,000 visitors to Corvallis.

The main show features a range of Polynesian dances performed by Hui-O-Hawaii and Polynesian Cultural Club members.

UPDATE: Train Derailment in Downtown Corvallis; Streets Now Clear

Crews are now working to repair the tracks.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Portland Western Railroad A Portland & Western Railroad freight train derailed in downtown Corvallis Wednesday just before 11:30 AM.

Several downtown streets in Corvallis were blocked by the train derailment according to the Corvallis Fire Department.

There were no injures reported in the incident.

Construction Company Requests ODOT Terminate $130 Million Contract

YRC signed a contract with ODOT worth $130 million in 2005 to complete the project.

(SALEM) - highway 20 photo Yaquina River Constructors, the prime contractor for the Highway 20 Pioneer Mountain-Eddyville improvement project, has taken the unusual step of requesting that the Oregon Department of Transportation terminate its contract to build a new, 7-mile section of highway across the Coast Range between Corvallis and Newport.

This request to terminate follows months of discussion concerning landslide mitigation measures throughout the project site.

City Receiving Complaints About Noise from Forest Fire Fighting Helicopter Training

Crews are flying a Bell 214, which looks and sounds like a Bell UH-1 "Huey" and has the distinctive "wop wop wop" sound.

This activity has elicited a lot of questions and some complaints from residents.

Benton County to be Without Early Morning Sheriff Patrols Beginning Sunday

Two deputies will be assigned to an “on-call” status during the early morning hours and will respond to life threatening incidents.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - benton county courthouse Effective April 1st, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office will begin a new patrol schedule that will leave rural Benton County without early morning patrol coverage.

With the loss of federal county payments and voter approved tax limitations, the Sheriff’s Office will not have resources or personnel to provide twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week patrol coverage.

From 3:00 AM until 7:00 AM, the Sheriff’s Office will not have deputies on patrol.

Be Aware! Van Buren Bridge in Corvallis Closed at Night for Repairs

The project is scheduled to be competed in mid-November.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Van Buren Bridge The Oregon Department of Transportation has begun its scheduled closing of the Van Buren Avenue Bridge in Corvallis.

ODOT will close the bridge from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday until mid-April.

During the nighttime hours, Van Buren Street traffic will be detoured to Second Street and over the Harrison Street Bridge, which will be converted to two-way traffic while the repairs are taking place.
