The Avoidance of Tragedy is a Story in Itself

We often only hear of the tragic water events in Clackamas County. This is a story told through a Letter of Commendation about one life that was saved.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to commend Reserve Deputy Donnie McCafferty for his rescue of an unidentified Hispanic male swimmer at the Carver Boat Ramp yesterday.

I learned from Deputy Dick Jacobs that he and Deputy McCafferty were at the Carver ramp assisting units with parks enforcement, when an unidentified Hispanic male began having difficulty swimming at the same area where two men recently drowned, just above the bridge.

Child Abduction Suspect is no Stranger in Clackamas County

Before budget cuts during the Reagan era, patients like Allgood had state facilities to turn to in Oregon that housed and cared for those who are mentally challenged.

(WILSONVILLE) - A spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says their agency is familiar with 19-year old Michael John Allgood who was shot by police in Las Vegas, Nevada after an alleged child abduction attempt Tuesday afternoon at the McCarran Airport.

One incident that is certainly memorable for deputies is the night of December 8th, 2005, when they responded to the Allgood family home in Wilsonville and encountered Michael Allgood, naked and fighting with his mother and father inside their residence...

It May be Hot Outside, But Oregon Waterways Are Still Very Cold

Safe & Sound Reminder From The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Marine Rescue Unit.

(Oregon City) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Rescue Unit would like to remind everyone the present temperature of the Clackamas River is only 53 degrees, combined with an enormous volume of water resulting from this years abundant snow melt. The United States Geological Service reporting this Clackamas River is discharging at a rate of 1662 cubic feet per second.

At 1:00 PM Friday, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Rescue responded to assist four teenagers who were floating the Clackamas River on inner tubes, encountered some turbulent water and were separated from their inner tubes; reportedly, with no personal floatation devices being worn.

Stolen Truck Used to Steal Fireworks Found in Salem

(SALEM) - A truck used to steal an estimated $500,000 worth of fireworks from a storage facility this weekend in Clackmas has been found in Salem.

The 1997, 26-foot-long white box truck was found abandoned in the 3400 block of Brady Court NE around 6:30 AM, Salem police said.

An employee who works at a nearby business spotted the truck and alerted police.

The stolen fireworks belong to retailer American Promotional Events in Clackamas.

They were stolen Saturday night from a storage facility in Clackamas County, said Jim Strovink, a detective with the Clackamas County Sheriff`s Office.

Blog Posting on Illegal Immigration Ignites Tiff

Oregon's illegal immigration debate flared anew this week.

(SALEM – AP) - A political commentary by Secretary of State Bill Bradbury's communications director, Anne Martens, said immigration reforms were being promoted by people who are "anti-immigrant" and "anti-Mexican." She said it is time to call it what it is: racism.

Representative Linda Flores of Clackamas who is advocating a tougher stand against undocumented foreigners contends that she and others have been branded as "racists".

Martens, meanwhile, is unapologetic and says the view is her own and not job-related.

70 Oregon Guard Citizen Soldiers to Demobilize on Saturday

Spc. Jaynie Cole will be awarded a Purple Heart during the Demobilization Ceremony.

(CLACKAMAS) - More than 70 Oregon Army National Guard citizen-soldiers of the 3670th Maintenance Company will be demobilized after serving 12 months in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The official Demobilization Ceremony, signifying the completion of their tour of duty, will take place at the Camp Withycombe Armory, 10101 NE Clackamas Rd., in Clackamas on Saturday at noon.

Attending the ceremony to welcome these soldiers home will be, Governor Kulongoski, Congresswoman Darlene Hooley, and Adjutant General, Major General Raymond Rees.

Driver Without Headlights Hits 120 MPH Then Wipes Out While Fleeing Police

Clackamas County deputies on the scene say the vehicle rolled numerous times while the driver was ejected onto State Hwy 26.

(Clackamas) - Crash Investigation logo Deputies in Clackamas County say they saw a driver operating a gray 1990 Toyota without headlights just after 11:30 PM Sunday.

Warm Spring authorities report this vehicle may have been taken by force earlier in the evening during a strong armed robbery event.

Salem Garbage Truck Driver Strikes Power Pole at Camp Withycombe

Power has apparently been cut off to Camp Withycombe and several businesses in the area. PGE officials are on the scene working to restore power at this time.

(Clackamas) - A Salem garbage truck driver is uninjured after his vehicle apparently clipped a power pole outside the entrance to Camp Withycombe in Clackamas at 10101 SE Clackamas Rd.

Clackamas County deputies dispatched to the scene just before 10:00 AM this morning say they found the garbage truck, owned by the State of Oregon, had tipped on its side after pulling down the power pole. The driver of the truck, 60-year old Mike Kuhns of Salem, was not injured but they say he was trapped in the truck for a short time.
