Treasure Island`s Toxic Problem

Turns out that old Treasure Island Naval Station is some of the 'hottest' property in San Francisco...

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Toxic piles at Treasure Island School The Blue Angels jet fighters racing across the sky maybe 500 feet above me, were practicing for an air show so the Navy could show off what it considers the very best in personnel, training and equipment.

Their presence over the old Treasure Island Naval Station that day was ironic, because I was visiting the island to see the Navy at its most decrepit and toxic.

El Toro`s Most Toxic 200 Acres

Veterans of former Marine Wing Support Group-37, MCAS El Toro, California are unaware of their risk of exposure to carcinogens and many have ‘not connected the dots ‘of illness to military service.

(IRVINE, Calif. ) - MCAS El Toro Hundreds and maybe thousands of 55 gallon drums of trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) were used at MCAS El Toro over decades to degrease aircraft parts.

A major concern is that both chemicals are carcinogens. The men using them did not wear protective clothing and masks, and the waste was dumped into storm drains or directly in the ground.

Half Million Dollars Worth of Cocaine and Marijuana seized by Clexico Port Officers in one day

The weight of the narcotic was 123 pounds with a street value of $123,000

(Calexico, Calif.) - Officers discovered 21 wrapped packages of cocaine concealed inside the gas tank. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $480,000. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico ports of entry yesterday seized 183 pounds of cocaine and marijuana valued at more than $500,000, in two separate smuggling attempts.

The first seizure occurred at about 7:30 a.m. at the Calexico downtown port after CBP officers discovered 60 pounds of cocaine hidden in a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. The driver, a 43-year-old male United States citizen was arrested.

$653,500 in Marijuana Siezed by San Ysidro CBP Officers Over Weekend

CBP officers at both border stations apprehended 15 wanted felons with warrants for their arrest

(SAN YSIDRO, Calif) - Bundles of marijuana were hidden throughout the engine compartment of this vehicle. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry this weekend were busy intercepting drugs hidden in various compartments.

CBP officers at both ports seized 1,307 pounds of marijuana in 13 different smuggling attempts from Friday 6 a.m. to Monday 6 a.m. The drugs were estimated to have a street value of $653,500 dollars.
