Wind Development Threatens Iconic American Birds

(LOS ANGELES) - American birds Today, American Bird Conservancy announced that three iconic American bird species face especially severe threats from wind energy development.

"Golden Eagles, Whooping Cranes, and Greater Sage-Grouse are likely to be among the birds most affected by poorly planned and sited wind projects,” said Kelly Fuller, Wind Program Coordinator for American Bird Conservancy, the nation’s leading bird conservation organization.

Native American group files suit against BLM for failure to consult.

(BLYTHE, Calif.) - Airborne dust from grading private land outside Blythe A prestigious Native American cultural protection group, filed suit Monday in the US District Court, challenging the BLM permitting processes related to 6 large solar facilities planned for three Southern California deserts.

The group says it has standing to sue because it meets the legal definition of "Indian Tribe", and also has a Memorandum of Understanding with the BLM.

The entire runway at this old base along with hangars 296 and 297 in a section of the base that formerly contained Marine Wing Support Group-37, will stay right where they are.

Orange County Great Park to use Radium Contaminated Hangar

A radium paint room was a common feature on many military airfields.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - MCAS El Toro The latest Orange County Great Park plans are to keep the runways and hangars at former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in place to “dramatically reduce costs and speed up the building of Irvine’s Great Park,” according to the Voice of OC.

Former MCAS El Toro is an EPA Superfund site, the base closed in July 1999, and sold at a public auction in 2005.
