(SALEM) - Word slowly spread Tuesday that the body of Private first class Thomas Tucker and that of a Houston soldier had been found in Iraq. Both were tortured.

Governor Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Thursday, in memory of 22-year-old Army Specialist Robert L. Jones, of Milwaukie.

Seven Marines and a sailor have been charged with murder in the April death of an Iraqi civilian, the Marine Corps said Wednesday.

(SALEM) - salem-news.com Linn County Sheriff`s Office divers recovered the body of 13-year-old Maria Martinez Sunday just before 2:00 PM in Walter Wirth Lake at Cascade Gateway Park.

Since Friday, there have been four deaths on Oregon waterways.

(SALEM) - The family of an Oregon soldier missing in Baghdad says it has heard no word from the military but a family spokesman says they are prepared for the worst.

Two 15-year-old Sprague High School students were arrested Tuesday for starting the fire in the girl's bathroom on Wednesday, the first of two suspicious fires in one week at the school.

Friday`s community enforcement and crime prevention event in east Salem, and Keizer led to 44 arrests. In addition, nearly 4 oz of cocaine were seized along with small amounts of other drugs.

(MADRAS) - The family and friends of Army Private First Class Thomas Tucker of Madras, a soldier believed to have been killed in Iraq this week, say they appreciate the outpouring of support from people all around the nation.

U.S. Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said the remains found by U.S. troops were believed to be those of Thomas Tucker, 25, and Private First Class Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston, Texas.

An umbrella group that includes al-Qaida in Iraq claimed in a Web statement monday morning that it has kidnapped two U-S soldiers reported missing south of Baghdad.

A 22-year-old soldier from Milwaukie is dead, after an explosion in Iraq. Army Specialist Robert Jones was killed Friday in an ambush while on foot patrol in Baghdad.

Sprague High School was the scene of second arson fire within the last week. The first one happened Wednesday June 14th. Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says it was set in the girl's bathroom.

(SALEM) - Two public safety officers escaped serious injuries this weekend after their patrol cars were hit by suspected drunk drivers.

Keizer police Stg. David LeDay`s patrol car was rammed by 19-year-old Eric Gilmore`s 1985 GMC Jimmy early Saturday morning at Arcade Court and Larchwood Street NE.

The incident occurred when LeDay attempted stop Gilmore on suspected drunken driving. Gilmore fled Leday`s pursuit, and turned down a cul-de-sac.

Keizer Police sergeant David LeDay was fortunate Saturday, escaping serious injuries when a driver who police believed may be intoxicated, gave chase, then smashed his SUV into LeDay`s police cruiser.

Several climbers involved in a severe fall on Mount Hood were recovered by an Oregon National Guard helicopter crew Saturday from Salem`s 1042nd Medical Company. The climbing accident happened on the top of Crater Rock.

Oregon`s capitol city is home to one of the most radical, inspirational and durable Kickboxing instructor/champions in the nation. In fact, there may not be a tougher martial arts instructor alive.

Newly filed campaign finance reports suggest that Oregon's 2006 governor's race could be the most expensive competition for the state's top job in Oregon history. The candidates raised and spent more than $6 million in the primary.
