(SALEM) - Here is the latest news from Salem-News.com`s Tim King Police in Keizer are searching for the driver of a stolen SUV that was crashed into a patrol car. Keizer Police sergeant David LeDay was fortunate Saturday, escaping serious injuries when a driver who police believed may be intoxicated, gave chase, then smashed his SUV into LeDay`s police cruiser. It started with an attempted traffic stop. The crash caused both airbags inside the patrol vehicle to deploy and a substantial amount of damage to the patrol vehicle. The suspect according to police is a young male in his late teens to twenties. He reportedly fled on foot from the vehicle immediately following the crash. Police are continuing the investigation of the traffic crash. Anyone having information about this incident is asked to contact the Keizer Police Department at 503-390-3713. Several climbers involved in a severe fall on Mount Hood were recovered by an Oregon National Guard helicopter crew Saturday from Salem`s 1042nd Medical Company. The climbing accident happened on the top of Crater Rock. Wasco County dispatch received the 911 call at approximately 9:30 AM. It is believed that the two seriously injured patients, 31-year old Aaron Dunlop of Newberg, Oregon and 32-year old Jeremy Hawkins of Tigard, Oregon, fell a total of 500' down the mountain. One was reported to have a serious head injury. It started when one person in a party of three fell, colliding with an additional four man climbing team, who in turn lost control and crashed into the remaining party who was at the end of what rescuers described as `a domino chain of events". The Guard helicopter crew took the two seriously injured men to OHSU, while a third man with a minor head injury was taken to Timberline Lodge. Oregon`s capitol city is home to one of the most radical, inspirational and durable Kickboxing instructor/champions in the nation. In fact, there may not be a tougher martial arts instructor alive. A former U.S. Marine, he is still one of the few and the proud, from his mannerisms to the logo he created for his fight team shirts. John Olivera is the Sensei at Steele`s Karate in Salem and he shares his lifetime of experience with those who take an interest. What John has done in his lifetime is become one of the most accomplished martial artists and not just in one style of martial arts either. Newly filed campaign finance reports suggest that Oregon's 2006 governor's race could be the most expensive competition for the state's top job in Oregon history. The candidates raised and spent more than $6 million in the primary. Since then Republican candidate Ron Saxton has raised more than $250,000, far outpacing incumbent Gov. Ted Kulongoski, who recorded contributions of about $105,000 since the May 16th election. State Sen. Ben Westlund, an independent from Bend who is gathering signatures to put his name on the November ballot, has raised just under $74k since May 17th. In 2002, by contrast, Kulongoski and opponent Kevin Mannix had raised a combined total of about $140,000 in the three weeks after the primary. As reported earlier this month here on Salem-News.com, disabled workers and volunteers recently scored a victory when the City of Salem conceded that a $40 per month fee permit they had been charging state-issued disabled placard holders was inappropriate. Our sources now report that City crews have begun removing the signs stating "Visitors Only" that the City had placed under the disabled parking signs back in October 2004. A group of disabled individuals worked long hours to defeat the City's requirements, continuously pointing to State law and the rights it grants to disabled drivers with state-issued disabled placards. The City Attorney eventually determined that the City's ordinance was faulty and the City stopped selling the extraneous permits.
