Animal Neglect Arrest in Albany

(Albany, Oregon) - Hank 100 lbs underweight On Thursday, at about 11:00 a.m., Albany Police Officers arrested 26-year-old Albany resident Erica Michelle Olsen in connection with an ongoing animal neglect investigation.

Erica Olsen was lodged in the Linn County Jail on a charge of Animal Neglect in the First Degree and an unrelated Linn County warrant charging Fail to Comply.

Suspicious Fire in Albany Vacant House

(Albany, Ore.) - Fire in Albany Oregon This morning at 2:06am the Albany Fire Department was called to a vacant house fire at 6061 Columbus ST SE.

The house at this address is the seventh suspicious house fire since late October; six vacant and one that had occupants. The house on Columbus was built in the late 1890's by the grandparents of the owner, Kent Chapman.

Discount Cigarettes Store in Albany Robbed - Suspect Sought

(ALBANY, Oregon) - Albany Robbery Suspect On Saturday at about 7:00 p.m., the Albany Police Department responded to the Discount Cigarettes store located at 2850 SE Santiam Highway on the report of an armed robbery. The lone store employee told police the store had been robbed.

The employee reported that a male suspect entered the store and pulled a stocking cap down over his face. The employee reported that the suspect displayed what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from her. The employee gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash after which time the suspect left the store and ran east through the parking lot.

Albany Fire Department Extinguishes Suspicious Vacant Residential Structure Fire

(ALBANY, Oregon) - Albany Fire Fighters assess fire suppression efforts The Albany Fire Department responded to 918 Water Street NE at approximately 4:27 a.m. today to a reported structure fire.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within approximately three minutes to find single-family home heavily charged with smoke and fire.

Oregon Air National Guard to Take Part in Veterans Day Flyovers Around the State

(SALEM, Oregon) - 173d Fighter Wing F-15 The Oregon Air National Guard will conduct Veterans Day flyovers for various ceremonies at locations throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

F-15 Eagle fighter jets from the 142nd Fighter Wing in Portland and the 173rd Fighter Wing at Kingsley Field are scheduled to conduct flyovers at the following locations and approximate times:

All passes will be approximately 1,000 feet above ground level and 350 knots airspeed. Flights could be cancelled or times changed due to inclement weather or operational contingencies.

Sixth Albany Community Summit on Homelessness

(ALBANY, Oregon) - Salem-News.com The sixth Albany area summit on homelessness will happen Wednesday, from 9 a.m.-noon at Albany City Hall, 333 Broadalbin Street SW. Representatives of organizations and agencies that work directly with Albany's homeless and low-income residents will attend, with this year's focus on the "new homeless:" those in or near homelessness due to the ongoing economic downturn.

Rick Crager, deputy director of Oregon Housing and Community Services, will give a keynote address. Groups and individuals involved in initiatives in the Albany area will give updates on those projects including supportive housing for women in transition; a new children's dental clinic; and the Adult Services Team that works with individuals or couples who have been hard to house.

Special Olympics Oregon Fall Regional Games Held Statewide

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - soor logo Several communities throughout Oregon will once again host Special Olympics Oregon Fall Regional Games on consecutive weekends in Late October and November. More than 2,000 athletes will compete in one of 10 competitions in seven cities. Hundreds of coaches, volunteers and families will join in to support competitors.

The Fall Regional Games, presented by Les Schwab Tire Centers, officially begins Sunday, October 31 with a bowling competition at Lakeshore Lanes in Albany. Regional competitions continue the following weekend with Corvallis hosting aquatics on Saturday, November 6 and soccer and volleyball on Sunday, November 7. Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham will also host aquatics on November 7. November 13 & 14 will conclude the fall season with bowling competitions in Beaverton, Bend, Hermiston, Medford and Portland.

Serious Injury Traffic Crash Interstate 5 Northbound South Of Woodburn

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Crash Investigation graphic A 3-year old girl was seriously injured and her father and 2-year old sister received minor injuries after their vehicle collided with an unoccupied motor home Sunday afternoon northbound along Interstate 5 three miles south of Woodburn. Oregon State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
