(SALEM, Ore.) - This coming weeks calendar of events full of Halloween and other fun / educational events.

Tuesday October 19th
Zombie MarchZombies of the mid-Willamette Valley will gather at the steps of the Court Street steps of the Capitol Building then march through the streets of Salem, finishing their escapades Clockworks Café. This is also a food drive for Marion Polk Food Share; participants & watchers are encouraged to bring a can or two of food to donate. Help the Zombies feed the People!

Wednesday October 20th
The Wednesday Farmers' Market is open on Chemeketa Street NE, between High and Liberty Streets in downtown Salem! The market runs from 10 am to 2 pm every Wednesday through October.

The Salem-Keizer Newcomers Club
The Salem-Keizer Newcomers Club on October 21st at 10:00 a.m. is holding their monthly coffee social at the Morningside Methodist Church, 3674 12th St. SE, Salem.

Pentacle actors to read Ghastly Ghost Tales at Salem Public Library - Actors from Pentacle Theatre are teaming up with Salem Public Library for an evening of bone-chilling ghost stories in a dramatic special edition of the Library’s Grown-Up Storytime.

Ghastly Ghost Tales will be read from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 21 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. SE.

Kidney Disease Education Class - Fresenius Medical Care Salem will offer its Treatment Options Program (TOPs) on October 21, 2010. This class is a free seminar to inform at-risk patients and their families about chronic kidney disease and treatments. Sessions are open to the public.

Friday October 22nd
The Oregon School for the Deaf presents the new EXTREME version of Nightmare Factory – The doctor will see you now! Oct. 8-9, 15-16, 22-31; weekends 7-11 p.m., weekdays 7-10 p.m.

Fifth annual Zambia Night event - The fifth annual Zambia Night event will be a celebration of the recently completed Light and Literacy project at the Memorial Library and Learning Center in Lumwana West, a village in the Northwest Province of Zambia, Africa. The event will raise money for future projects with a focus on the “Education of Beth’s Girls: Grades 8-12 & Beyond” as more and more girls are asking to continue their education.

Ballot Measure 73 Debate Salem City Club - Measure 73 on our General Election ballot will ask voters whether Oregon should toughen sentencing laws for repeat sex offenders and repeat drunken drivers. If approved, it would require a 25-year mandatory minimum sentence for those convicted a second time for any of four Class A felony sex offenses. It also would require jail sentences of at least 90 days for drunken drivers following their third conviction within 10 years. The debate on the wisdom of the measure turns on questions of effectiveness and appropriateness of the proposed sentencing regimes – strong arguments can be made on both sides. Also up for debate is the cost of the proposals.

This is a rare opportunity to venture into the rarely seen tunnels deep below Salem's downtown area, and also learn of Salem's haunted past! Two Tours: 7 PM & 8 PM. Know Your Haunted history in time for Halloween.

Salem Neighbors to Make A Difference - Make A Difference Day, the fourth Saturday of October, is the largest national day of neighbors helping neighbors. In Salem, six neighborhoods are planning a variety of projects for Saturday, October 23.
