Albany Loan a Life Jacket Program Begins Memorial Day

First State Veterans and War Memorial Grants Approved

A $19,500 grant will help the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War replace a bronze statue of a Union soldier atop a monument in the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in southwest Portland.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Timber-Linn Park in Albany, Oregon Oregon's first Veterans and War Memorial Grants will help develop a memorial in an Albany park and replace a Civil War statue in a Portland cemetery.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission approved the state Lottery-funded grants at a commission meeting Thursday in Albany.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will release $21,960 to the Veterans of the 20th Century organization, which applied for a grant to support the new veterans memorial in Albany's Timber Linn Park.

Police Find Man With Gun at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon

Police have located a man reported to have weapons on the Linn-Benton County College campus. The campus is closed for the remainder of the day.

(ALBANY) - Salem-News.com The Linn-Benton Community College went into lockdown at about 9:00 AM, after a report of a man on campus who was suspected of concealing weapons under a tan trenchcoat.

The man had a weapon and a concealed weapons permit, according to Albany police.

Fire Forces Evacuations at Albany Plant

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - fire investigation image Albany firefighters responded to a report of a commercial structure fire this afternoon with the possibility of an explosion at Absorbent Technologies, Inc.

All Albany Fire Department personnel responded along with the Hazardous-Materials Region 5 team.

Employee's of Absorbent Technologies were evacuated.

Oregon Boy Had Spiders Walking on his Eardrums

Both of the spiders were described as being about the size of a pencil eraser.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Spider morphology An Albany boy who has been complaining about the "sound of Rice Krispies" in his ears has two new souvenirs; spiders that Oregon doctors removed by flushing the boy's ears.

Jesse Courtney has been pestering his mother by complaining about the noise and constant earache. The sounds remained a mystery until the doctors removed the spiders, one of which was still alive.

Albany, Oregon Gatorade Plant on Hold

Construction began in mid-April to connect the city’s water and sewer system to the PepsiCo site.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Gatorade sports drink The City of Albany, Linn County, the Albany-Millersburg Economic Development Corporation, the Oregon Departments of Economic and Community Development and Transportation, and PepsiCo have announced an adjustment in the planned Gatorade production and packaging plant in Southwest Albany.

PepsiCo is working to complete a comprehensive analysis of its capacity needs by September.

After reviewing the study, PepsiCo and Albany officials will work together to redefine construction plans.

UPDATE: Overnight Three Alarm Fire Damages Linn County Seed Company

Oregon Highway 99-E re-opened to traffic at noon.

(TANGENT, Ore.) - fire investigation image A three-alarm fire ripped through a Linn County seed company this morning.

Firefighters from five agencies are on scene putting out hot-spots.

The fire was reported just after 1:00 AM at the Beta Seed Company in Tangent by a person walking by who noticed smoke and flames coming from the building.

Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested in Albany

The investigation into this robbery and four other recent armed robberies is on-going. Anyone with any information regarding this robbery or any other robbery is asked to contact the Albany Police Department Detective section at 541-917-7686.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Armed Robbery suspects Mark Tidwell and Tracy Long Albany Police have now arrested both suspects in an armed robbery incident that happened April 30th at 10:20 PM at the Front Street Inn, located at 2300 NE Front Avenue.

Albany Police Captain Eric Carter says the bartender at the Front Street Inn described a woman that came into the bar that night and played video poker for a few minutes before left.

Linn Deputies Arrest Five After Serving Warrant

They were arrested in a variety of charges relating to Methamphetamine.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Albany, Oregon drug suspects 42607 Linn County Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant for narcotics this morning in Albany. Sheriff Tim Mueller says his deputies were assisted by members of the Linn Drug Task Force, as they searched the residence at 3016 Grand Prairie Rd. SE, Albany.

Five suspects were arrested and investigators say Methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials, drug records, drug paraphernalia and stolen property were recovered..

Albany Drug Raid Leads to Three Arrests; Four Children into Protective Custody

Two of the children, ages 2 and 17 were home at the time of the raid.
