ATLANTA — Two police officers pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter in the shooting death of a 92-year-old woman during a botched drug raid last fall. A third officer still faces charges. Officer J.R. Smith told a state judge Thursday that he regretted what had happened. "I'm sorry," the 35-year-old said, his voice barely audible. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, violation of oath, criminal solicitation, making false statements and perjury, which was based on claims in a warrant. Former Officer Gregg Junnier, 40, who retired from the Atlanta police in January, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, violation of oath, criminal solicitation and making false statements. Both men are expected to face more than 10 years in prison. In a hearing later in federal court, both pleaded guilty to a single charge of conspiracy to violate a person's civil rights, resulting in death. Their state and federal sentences would run concurrently.

oh al, it's not a matter of blame, it's has to do with correcting and preventing social problems in a more intelligent way than your attitude states. I would throw in a little compassion which I have for you.

These poor meth users and distributers, we should blame it on their parents. At least find someone else to blame besides themselves.

Update on Trooper Brinkerhoff: He was killed by friendly fire during the siege at the farmhouse. Why was this reported so late? Now I have really lost faith in those little towns that I know so well. In the same town of Margaretville, there is an attempted cover-up of the beating of a mentally disabled 56 year old man by two vacationing New York City police officers. The 56 year old is now physically disabled. It is still not closed. Something else is going on there, I am friends with his sister.

These people are now going to go into the most out of control lawless place of all; prison. The administrators and staff are included and participate in the well documented cruel mayhem. It angers me that people are increasingly being put away for petty crimes that are classified after a long period of social brainwashing. Legalize marijuana as part of the solution. At this point these people are very far gone and need to be really rehabed. These people are not violent and are really, really sick. Part of the problem is economic. I see mostly women trying to get by on low level retail jobs and some men too. It usually does not work. Even two low wage incomes does not cut the mustard. This whole system of citizens vs. police with this prudish bullcrap has got to stop. It is a non-productive shot-mill and everyone can not be a cop or is that how it will eventually be...everyone a paramilitary, with a few concentration camps (prison)? Look at their young faces. They are just starting out in life. I would be all for their arrest only because they are a danger to themselves and others....not as criminals. They need long term hospitalization. Who wouldn't be contemptuous when you are that sick? I do not know what is national news but in Arkville, New York near Margaretville there was just had another mini-Waco. The reports from law enforcement do not add up. The tradgedy is that a State Trooper, Brinkerhoff is dead and another seriously injured and from what I have personally heard from someone who met him, he was a decent young man. Only 29 years old. The 23 year old, Trim is the alleged murderer (another tragedy) who died in the fire of the farmhouse in Arkville where he was hiding. The point is that police can be trained differently so that they are not perceived as people to run from and in many cases people that you can run to. Decades of old style good-guy-bad-guy training have also endangered law enforcement. They are being viewed as people to run from, hate and fear. They should given more leverage in becoming intimate with their fellow citizens, not just the old ladies. They should not have unofficial arrest quotas or any other quotas. I also feel that since they are public servants people should be able to have the police under 24 hour surveillance when they are out of office. Far too many of them go back and forth to my gym for hours at a time while they are about the highest paid in the country. And of course there are really violent offenders, I just know that things are way out of balance and there are solutions that would result in a more sane method of social order that greatly reduces this chaos.
