(ALBANY, Ore.) - An Albany boy who has been complaining about the "sound of Rice Krispies" in his ears has two new souvenirs; spiders that Oregon doctors removed by flushing the boy's ears. Jesse Courtney has been pestering his mother by complaining about the noise and constant earache. The sounds remained a mystery until the doctors removed the spiders, one of which was still alive. Jesse Courtney told the Albany Democrat Herald, 'They were walking on my eardrums.' His mother, Diane, added: 'He kept telling me he could hear a faint popping in his ear, like Rice Krispies.' When Jesse was examined, a doctor named David Irvine could not immediately find the problem. But the ear irrigation in Jesse's left ear yielded the first spider, which came out dead. The paper reports that the other spider took a second dousing before it came out, still alive. Both of the spiders were described as being about the size of a pencil eraser. Dr Irvine said told reporters that it was the only time he ever pulled an invertebrate out of a person's ear. how irritating that must have been...then to think that there is a live insect in your ear.....that would drive one crazy....thank goodness it is out...hopefully no eggs were left...

It is not uncommon for people to have a bug in their ear. The main purpose of ear wax is to kill bugs (it is toxic to them).

I had a spider in my ear years ago. No one believe me. I nearly went mad. I finally flushed it out myself with ear wax cleaner. It jumped out. Since then, I use ear plugs at night. It was a horrid experience.
