Oregon Signs Five Acclaimed High School Players

Three of the signees are from Chicago: Josh Crittle, Michael Dunigan and Matthew Humphrey, and the other two are Drew Wiley of Springfield, Ore., and Teondre Williams of Norcross, Ga.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Ernie Kent Five high school players rated among the best at their positions nationally have signed National Letters of Intent with Oregon, head coach Ernie Kent announced Wednesday.

Oregon’s recruiting class has been ranked No. 7 nationally by Hoop Scoop, run by Clark Francis, and 11th nationally by both Rivals.com and Scout.com (Dave Telep).

Oregon State Lands Detroit Basketball Star Kavon Rose

Rose chose Oregon State over Southern Illinois, Creighton, Oakland and Western Michigan.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - jay johnKavon Rose, a 6-2 guard from Detroit, Mich., has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Oregon State men’s basketball team next season, head coach Jay John announced on Wednesday.

Rose, who attends Finney High School in Detroit, is rated as the No. 2 player in the city and the No. 4 player in Michigan by the Detroit Basketball Report among this year’s recruiting class.

Oregon State Baseball Announces 11 Signings

First baseman Michael Wesner and outfielder Doug Kincaid are both staying home in Oregon to play ball for the Beavers.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - pat caseyOregon State baseball head coach Pat Casey announced Wednesday that 11 student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to join the Beavers.

The highly heralded class includes four players ranked in Baseball America’s top 100 high school players nationally. B.J. Hermsen, a right-handed pitcher from Masonville, Iowa, is ranked 16th, followed by infielder Niko Vasquez of Las Vegas (No. 49) and outfielders Brent Warren of Robins, Iowa (73rd) and Ryan Gorton of Tigard, Ore. (93rd).

Oregon State Pins Portland State

Senior Kyle Larson helped build the Oregon State lead, defeating Alan Dickey at 149 pounds with a pair of takedowns and an escape.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Travis GardnerIn his first collegiate heavyweight match, senior Travis Gardner earned the meet’s only pin over Zack Smith in a time of 3:49, as the No. 24 Beavers defeated Pac-10 opponent, the Portland State Vikings 41-3 Tuesday evening.

The Beavers jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead after Portland State forfeited both at 125 and 133, giving juniors Jake Gonzales and Ryan Enoch automatic wins.

Corban Routs Portland Bible, 108-68

For the Wildcats of Portland Bible, Kahlil Littleton scored a team-high 18 points along with Andrew Damazio and Montrell Goss adding 11 points apiece.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - corban wade douglasAll thirteen players scored at least four points, as Corban's men's basketball team picked up an exhibition win over first-year program Portland Bible, 108-68, on Tuesday behind a game-high 18 points by junior Wade Douglas.

In a game that does not count on the overall record or statically, the Warriors jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead led by freshman Ian Logan, who scored six of Corban's opening points.

Beavers Bite Wolves, 66-46

Shayla Corder led Western Oregon with 11 points.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Tiffany DuckerOregon State forced 31 Western Oregon turnovers and broke open a close game partway through the second half to win a women's exhibition basketball game on Tuesday night at Gill Coliseum, 66-46.

Tiffany Ducker came up big in the post, scoring 19 points in addition to 10 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. while Stacy Nichols set a career high with 12 points for the Beavers (2-0).

Blazers Take Down Pistons to Win Fourth Straight

The Blazers honored the team that won the 1990 and 1992 Western Conference championships during a halftime ceremony.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - brandon royLaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points and 10 rebounds, as the Portland Trail Blazers snapped a four-game losing streak at the Rose Garden to Detroit and former Blazer Rasheed Wallace, 102-94.

Jarrett Jack and Brandon Roy each scored 20 points for the Blazers, who extended their winning streak to four games, all at home, after dropping their first three on the road.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - rotary bowl imageWestern Oregon's football season has been extend to Dec. 1, as it was announced yesterday that the Wolves will play Colorado School of Mines in the 22nd annual Dixie Rotary Bowl in St. George, Utah.

Western Oregon (8-2) finished the 2007 regular season on a four-game win streak and with a 64-0 win over Humboldt State. Colorado School of Mines won six of its final seven games of the season to finish 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the RMAC.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Brandon BennettSix Willamette University football players have been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2007 season, as selected by the NWC head coaches.

Willamette's First Team selections were senior offensive tackle Brandon Bennett (San Marcos, CA/La Costa Canyon HS), senior place-kicker Matt Bicocca (San Andreas, CA/Calaveras HS) and senior punter Clinton Moran (Mission Viejo, CA/Capistrano Valley HS) on offense and senior inside linebacker Taylor Hermes (Keizer, OR/McNary HS/Southern Oregon University), senior defensive tackle Mitchell MacCready (Manteca, CA/Manteca HS) and senior inside linebacker Phil Sweet (Albany, OR/West Albany HS) on defense.
