Oregon State head coach Jay John announced the signing of Kavon Rose to a National Letter of Intent.

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Kavon Rose, a 6-2 guard from Detroit, Mich., has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Oregon State men’s basketball team next season, head coach Jay John announced on Wednesday.

“Kavon (Rose) is a strong perimeter player who can come in as a scorer and will develop into a leader,” John said. “He is an intelligent player who is extremely versatile and does whatever it takes to be successful. He is a competitor and he should be a great fit for our program.”

Rose, who attends Finney High School in Detroit, is rated as the No. 2 player in the city and the No. 4 player in Michigan by the Detroit Basketball Report among this year’s recruiting class.

Considered an extremely good shooter, the guard averaged 25 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals as a junior for Finney High School and was selected to the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News “Dream Teams.”

In addition, the Detroit Basketball Reports selected him for the Detroit Public School League all-star team and was an all-state selection.

Rose chose Oregon State over Southern Illinois, Creighton, Oakland and Western Michigan.

In addition to Rose, the Beavers are expected to sign one additional perspective student-athlete during the early signing period.

Oregon State begins the regular season this Thursday in Fairbanks, Alaska, against Colorado State in the opener of the Top of the World Classic. Tip-off is scheduled at approximately 9:30 p.m.
