Platano Receives NCAA Elite 88 Award

WU Runner has Top GPA among Athletes at NCAA Cross Country Championships.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Chris Platano The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has named Willamette University men's cross country runner Chris Platano (Sr., Myrtle Point, OR/Myrtle Point HS) as an Elite 88 Award winner for the fall 2009 season.

The Elite 88 Award is presented at each NCAA national championship event to the competing athlete with the highest grade point average. The NCAA sponsors a total of 88 national team titles in its three divisions.

Beavers Fall Short In 113th Civil War

(EUGENE, Ore. (AP)) - Oregon vs Oregon State football civil warLast season Oregon State was headed to the Rose Bowl with a victory in the Civil War. But the Ducks came to Reser Stadium and romped to a 65-38 victory. The year before, the Beavers visited Autzen and won 38-31 in the second overtime.

Redshirt freshman LaMichael James ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns Thursday night to send No. 7 Oregon to the Rose Bowl with a 37-33 victory over No. 13 Oregon State in the Civil War.

Boxers Let Lead Go as Warriors Come Back to Win in Overtime

Men's Basketball: Corban 110, Pacific 106 in overtime.

(FOREST GROVE, Ore.) - A 51 percent shooting performance from the field and a 55 percent effort from three-point range was not enough for Pacific to get past Corban Friday night as the Warriors surged in the second half and went on to a 110-106 overtime victory over the Boxers in men's basketball action at the Pacific Athletic Center.

The Boxers (1-1) shot 56 percent in the first half and enjoyed a 14-point advantage early in the second period before the Warriors (4-0) surged to take an eight-point lead with 1:50 to go.

No. 15 Trojans Vanquish No. 18 Duck Volleyball, 3-0

Oregon called timeouts at 19-16 and 20-16 to try and stall a final Trojan run, but a pair of USC blocks and Jupiter's final kill marked the deciding points of the match.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - The No. 15 USC volleyball team (18-9, 7-9) ended a two-match losing streak at McArthur Court with a 3-0 win Friday night over the University of Oregon (16-9, 6-9).

In a battle between the two teams tied for sixth place in the Pac-10, the Trojans won their third straight contest the past two weeks over a Northwest rival, this time by a 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 score. USC's decision Friday in the historic facility also avenged Oregon's 3-0 sweep last season and a 3-1 Duck victory in '07.

Blount Reinstated to Football Program

Hornaday Makes the Save of the Day Finishing Third in Texas

Three-time champion stabilizes championship point gap with two races remaining

(FORT WORTH, Tx.) - Salem-News.com SportsRon Hornaday and the No. 33 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) team began the weekend with a plan and stuck to that plan, coming out of Texas Motor Speedway with a third-place finish and197 points ahead of Matt Crafton with two races remaining in the 2009 season. Hornaday led three times for a total of 36 laps.

Hornaday battled with Kyle Busch and Crafton for the race win but the No. 33 truck became too loose at the end of the race. Unable to catch Busch to battle for the win, the No. 33 team did what they had to do in the championship battle.

Oregon Soccer Falls 2-1 at Arizona State‏

The Ducks took the one-goal lead into the half, out-shooting the Sun Devils 5-3 over the first stanza.

(TEMPE, Az.) - Soccer ballA penalty kick goal in the 76th minute by ASU’s Alexandra Elston vaulted Arizona State to a 2-1 win over the University of Oregon soccer team Sunday afternoon at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

The Ducks closed their regular season with a 9-10-1 overall record while finishing league play with a 1-8 mark. ASU improved to 9-7-3 on the year, 2-6-1 in conference action.

Masoli Named National Player of the Week

The Ducks jumped four spots in the USA Today coaches poll to No. 8, and three positions in the AP top 25 to No. 7. Oregon was 10th in last week’s BCS rankings, which will be updated later this afternoon.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Oregon junior quarterback Jeremiah MasoliOregon junior quarterback Jeremiah Masoli has been named the national offensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Masoli ran for a season-high 164 yards and passed for 222 more, totaling 386 yards of offense in UO’s 47-20 victory over then-No. 4 USC. He also rushed for one score and threw another.
