(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - On a chilly night on The Bluff, it took a hail of three-point field goals by the Portland State Vikings to defeat the Portland Pilots, 78-73.
Sophomore forward Tyrell Mara hit five of six three-pointers for the Vikings for all 15 of his points, and added a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore Nik Raivio kept the Pilots in the game, scoring 13 points, including three three-pointers in the final 6:35 of the game.

(WACO, Texas) - Art Briles, a native West Texan who resurrected the University of Houston's football program during his five seasons along the Cougars' sideline, was introduced as Baylor University's 25th head football coach on Wednesday.
Briles, who inherited a Houston program that was just two years removed from an 0-11 season and won just eight games from 2000 to 2003, posted a 34-28 record with the Cougars and guided his alma mater to four bowl games.

(CINCINNATI ) - With fixing their troublesome bullpen a top winter priority, the Reds knew right away they wanted free agent closer Francisco Cordero.
Those numbers turned out to be four years at $46 million with a $12 million club option for a fifth year. The deal was signed on Wednesday and Cordero was introduced at Great American Ball Park after he passed his physical.

As part of a plea deal, La Russa agreed to be placed on probation, pay fines and serve 50 hours of community service, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

(MILWAUKEE) - Jason Kendall became a Brewer on Wednesday, signing a one-year contract that includes a vesting option for 2009 and attending a press conference introducing him as the club's new catcher.
Kendall will earn a $4.25 million base salary in 2008 with up to $1 million in performance bonuses: $100,000 for 110 games, $150,000 each for 120 and 130 games, $150,000 for 115 starts and $250,000 for 130 starts.
