DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis shot 58.0 percent from the field, including 63.6 percent in the second half, to hand Portland State its first loss of the season with an 80-62 victory over the Vikings Tuesday evening, in a non-conference game at The Pavilion. The Aggies remain unbeaten at 5-0, while the Vikings fall to 5-1. Senior wing Jessica Campbell led four Aggies in double figures with 19 points, and senior wing Heather Bates recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Anna Harp added 18 points off the bench and junior wing Haylee Donaghe netted 14 points. UC Davis connected on 29-of-50 shots from the floor for the evening. The Aggies were 14-of-22 from the field in the second half. UC Davis also connected on 19-of-21 attempts from the free throw line. Senior forward Delaney Conway led Portland State with 15 points, and junior forward Kelsey Kahle scored 14. Freshman forward Kelli Valentine had 12 points off the bench. The Vikings finished at 42.6 percent from the field, making 23-of-54 shots, however, it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the hot-shooting Aggies. Portland State was 8-of-23 from beyond-the-arc and made 8-of-11 from the free throw line. UC Davis held a 31-25 advantage on the boards. The Aggies led 38-29 at halftime. The Vikings pulled to within five points with 7:01 left on a jumper and free throw by sophomore guard Claire Faucher to make it 64-59. Faucher’s basket was the Vikings’ last field goal of the game as they managed just three free throws the rest of the way. Portland State will return to action Saturday when the Vikings host Long Beach State. Tip-off is set for 2:05 p.m., inside the Peter W. Stott Center.
