(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Marcus Johnson, a 6-6, 195-pound forward/guard from Los Angeles, Calif., has transferred to the Oregon State men’s basketball program from the University of Connecticut and will be eligible to play for the Beavers beginning in December 2008 head coach Jay John announced on Monday.
"He is a tremendous athlete who is a terrific defender and rebounder," head coach Jay John said. "He brings valuable Big East experience and is a high-caliber player who will help us on the defensive end. He’s the kind of player who can come in and make an immediate impact and enhance the program."

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Oregon State University quarterback Sean Canfield underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery following the Beavers’ victory over Maryland at the sixth annual Emerald Bowl, head coach Mike Riley announced Monday.
Canfield, who will be a junior for the upcoming season, suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder (left) Nov. 3 at USC when he was hit by the Trojans’ Will Harris after an 18-yard scramble in the fourth quarter. He was out of uniform the remainder of the regular season.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Whitworth University moved in front for good on a jumper and foul shot by Colin Willemsen with 3:53 left in overtime, and the Pirates went on to defeat Willamette University, 72-65, in a Northwest Conference game played at Cone Field House on Saturday, January 5th.
Whitworth, which led most of the second half, but trailed several times late in regulation, improved to 7-3 overall, 1-1 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 3-8 overall, 1-1 in the NWC.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Leading for all but the first minute of the game, Southern Oregon narrowly escaped a last-minute comeback from Concordia to earn its first Cascade Collegiate Conference win of the season with a 69-65 win over the Cavaliers.
With the result, SOU improved to 5-10 on the year and 1-4 in the CCC while Concordia dropped to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the CCC. With the opening bucket by Cody Aker (Portland, Ore./Wilson H.S.), Concordia took the first lead of the game, but Kory Mahr and Matt Cowell didn’t let the lead last long as the duo posted 23 points in the first period to boost SOU.

Ranked #6 in the NAIA, the Mounties pulled out a 75-68 win improving to 5-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Opening up a double-digit lead nine minutes into the game and remaining comfortably ahead the rest of the way, the 18th-ranked George Fox University Bruins knocked off the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes 64-40 in the Northwest Conference women’s basketball opener for both teams Friday evening here at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.
Although they never trailed, the Bruins were tied by the Lutes three times in the first two minutes before Katy Campbell nailed a three-pointer at the 17:31 mark, giving the pre-season conference favorites a 9-6 lead which they never relinquished.

(KIRKLAND, Wash.) - Northwest University upset #13 ranked Warner Pacific, 104-89, in Cascade Conference play last night. Junior Eddie Coulson (N. Las Vegas, NV) scored a career high 32 points and handed out 6 assists to lead Northwest U. (8-6, 4-1 CCC) Warner Pacific’s All-American guard, Scott O’Gallagher (Gresham, OR), scored a game high 36 points for the Knights (7-6, 2-2 CCC).
NU jumped out to an early lead only to see Warner Pacific come back to tie the game. After six early ties, and the score knotted at 17, Northwest U. took the lead for the remainder of the game with Greg George’s offensive rebound and put back at 12:21 left in the first half.

(Eugene, Ore.) - The Northwest Christian College women’s basketball team ushered in 2008 by shooting 38% from the field Friday night, as 22nd-ranked Eastern Oregon University used 18 Beacons turnovers to produce 20 points and scored an additional 23 points off second chance opportunities.
The result was a 76-45 victory for the visiting Mountaineers, who improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

The host Warriors opened the game making their first two field goals -- a lay-up by senior Hannes Gehring (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and a jumper by Logan -- before Oregon Tech used a 19-0 run over a span of 5:48 to grab a 15-point advantage.
