Eugene, Ore. - The Northwest Christian College women’s basketball team ushered in 2008 by shooting 38% from the field Friday night, as 22nd-ranked Eastern Oregon University used 18 Beacons turnovers to produce 20 points and scored an additional 23 points off second chance opportunities. The result was a 76-45 victory for the visiting Mountaineers, who improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Beacons captured an early 4-2 lead to start the game, but the Mountaineers would answer with a 10-2 run over the next six minutes of play. Eastern Oregon took a 42-21 advantage into the half, and outrebounded the Beacons 25-7 in the opening half of play. For the third straight game NCC forward Elise Gray led with her team-high 15 points (shooting five-of-seven from the line), while fellow forward McKenzie Gambee returned from a two-game absence to score 10 points and post four boards with two assists. Guard Elise Hawes scored a game-high 18 points with nine rebounds, to lead four Mountaineers in scoring in double figures. Forward Tiffanie Ulmer scored 12 points off the bench and guards Laura Olsen and Jenny Fiso each contributed 11 points apiece. The Beacons fall to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play and will return to action Saturday night, when the College of Idaho visits the Morse Event Center for a 5:30 PM tip off.
