Obama Campaign Holding Basketball Tournament in Oregon

Barack Obama's brother-in-law and new Oregon State head coach Craig Robinson will ref the game.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Craig RobinsonTonight, Craig Robinson, Senator Barack Obama’s brother-in-law and OSU's new basketball coach, will referee the Obama Campaign’s 3-on-3 'Hoops for Change' basketball event featuring Portland Trail Blazers Channing Frye and James Jones.

Oregonians aged 16 years or older who collect voter registration forms for at least 5 people will qualify to be picked to participate in the 3-on-3 'Hoops for Change' basketball game.

Ashley Force Beats Dad; Makes NHRA History Again

Joining Force in the winner’s circle were Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock), and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle).

(ATLANTA) - Ashley and John ForceAshley Force etched her name into the annals of drag racing history when she defeated her father, John, in the final round at the 28th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals to become the first woman to win an NHRA Funny Car title.

The final was somewhat anticlimactic when John, who was seeking his 1,000th career round-win, struck the tires immediately; Ashley would have been tough to beat as she sailed to a 4.837, the second quickest time of the day.

Sorenstam Beats Creamer in Playoff for Stanford Victory

LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame member Karrie Webb fired a tournament-low 7-under-par 64 in the final round.

(AVENTURA, Fla.) - Paula CreamerIt may have taken a one-hole, sudden-death playoff, but Annika Sorenstam became the second multiple winner on the LPGA Tour this season, winning the Stanford International Pro-Am and simultaneously punching her ticket to the season-ending ADT Championship.

The 71-time Tour winner outlasted five-time winner Paula Creamer in the first playoff of the season, improving her career playoff record to 16-6.

Corban Stays in Playoff Hunt With Sweep

With the sweep, Corban improves to 15-20 overall, 11-11 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore. ) - Jessie Jones Junior Erin Sailors and freshman Jennifer Kollaer combined to pitch 14.0 innings and allowed one run on 10 hits, as Corban's softball team swept a crucial conference doubleheader with the Beacons of Northwest Christian, 6-0 & 2-1, Saturday at James Park.

In a must-win for the Warriors, Corban earned a much-needed conference sweep en route to keeping their playoff hopes alive for the NAIA Region I Tournament beginning on May 8th.

Wolves Improve During Spring Game No. 2

WOU's defense dominated the first quarter before the offense got untracked.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - WOU footballWestern Oregon's offense was impressive again but the defense also had its moments in the Wolves' second Spring Game of 2008 on Saturday afternoon at West Salem High School.

The Wolves went to the air successfully, as quarterback Brady Lovell connected on 13 of 17 passes for two touchdowns. The sophomore-to-be also ran for a score. AJ Robinson hit 6 of 13 passes for three scores.

(DALLAS) - David WestDavid West and Peja Stojakovic combined for 43 points Sunday as the Hornets stormed to a 97-84 victory over the Dallas Mavericks and grabbed a commanding 3-1 lead in their Western Conference first-round series.

With their backs against the wall, the Phoenix Suns came out ablaze in Game 4 and scorched the San Antonio Spurs for a 105-86 win on Sunday to stay alive in their first-round Western Conference playoff series.

With considerable drafting help from Juan Pablo Montoya, Busch battled back from running outside the top-30 for much of the afternoon.

(TALLADEGA, Ala. ) - Kyle BuschIn a race that saw 52 lead changes, it seemed certain that front-running Kyle Busch would be passed at some point during the final five laps of Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Instead, Busch managed to hold off a horde of challengers over the closing laps and come away with his first career victory at Talladega. In the process, he gave Joe Gibbs Racing a sweep of the two-race Aaron’s Dream Weekend.

Melanie Langley Resigns as Linfield Women's Soccer Coach

In two seasons as head coach, Langley led the Wildcats to a pair sixth-place finishes in the Northwest Conference.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - Melanie LangleyMelanie Langley, women’s soccer coach at Linfield College for the last two seasons, has resigned, according to director of athletics Scott Carnahan.

Langley stepped aside to accept an offer as assistant women’s soccer coach at Portland State University, where she was a three-year soccer letterwinner from 2001 to 2003.

#24 Willamette - #3 Linfield Split Softball Doubleheader

Nikki Franchi improved to 18-3 with the win for Willamette in the opener.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Kendra StrahmWillamette University, ranked #24 in NCAA Division III, broke a 5-5 tie on an RBI single by LaShawna Holcomb with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Bearcats defeated #3-ranked Linfield College, 6-5, in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Linfield, the defending national champion, ended the day at 35-3 on the season, 24-2 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette concluded the doubleheader at 24-10 overall, including 18-8 in the NWC.
