SALEM, Ore. - Western Oregon's offense was impressive again but the defense also had its moments in the Wolves' second Spring Game of 2008 on Saturday afternoon at West Salem High School.

"I thought that we made great progress from last week at West Linn (High School) to this week," said head coach Arne Ferguson. "We had better execution and were certainly more physical on both sides of the ball."

WOU's defense dominated the first quarter before the offense got untracked. "Our defensive front and linebackers were making it difficult for the offense's running game early on," Ferguson explained. "Running backs DJ Jackson and Ben Kuenzi still had good games because they made people miss, but that defensive group was making it tough on the ground."

The Wolves went to the air successfully, as quarterback Brady Lovell connected on 13 of 17 passes for two touchdowns. The sophomore-to-be also ran for a score. AJ Robinson hit 6 of 13 passes for three scores.

Isaiah Smith hauled in TD passes of 40 and 50 yards, while Lovell and Robinson also threw scoring strikes to Shaun Kauleinamoku, Jake Zuetenhorst and Cory Dickson.

"I am very pleased with the progress," Ferguson summized. "I am looking forward to getting our offense and defense together on the same page to play our Alumni next week."

The Wolves will host the Alumni next Friday night (6 p.m.) at McArthur Field.
