Oregon to Host Youth Baseball Camps

All campers will receive a t-shirt and lunch at each day’s workout.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - George HortonOregon baseball coach George Horton and his staff will host a series of prospect and youth camps this summer starting in June.

The prospect camps are open to all high school players, and the youth camps are broken up into sessions for players entering sixth through eighth graders as well as those entering second through fifth grade.

(CLEVELAND) - Caron ButlerCaron Butler’s driving layup over LeBron James with 3.9 seconds left helped the Wizards extend their season, as Washington rallied late for a thrilling 88-87 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series at Quicken Loans Arena.

Dominating the contest from start to finish, the Celtics trounced the Hawks 110-85 at TD Banknorth Garden to take a 3-2 lead in the series.

Johnson Out in Dallas; Roster to Undergo Major Changes

This past season, Johnson became the fastest coach in NBA history to reach 150 wins.

(DALLAS) - Avery Johnson Avery Johnson was dismissed as coach of the Dallas Mavericks the day after a disappointing season ended with a first-round playoff exit in New Orleans.

In his first full season as head coach (2005-06), Johnson guided the Mavericks to 60 wins and their first appearance in the NBA Finals. Dirk Nowitzki will remain the Mavs focal point, but the cast of characters surrounding the 2006-07 MVP is expected to undergo major change.

Byron Scott Named NBA Coach of the Year

Boston head coach Doc Rivers came in second, followed by Rick Adelman of the Rockets.

(NEW YORK) - Byron ScottNew Orleans’ Byron Scott is the recipient of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the 2007-08 NBA Coach of the Year, the NBA announced today.

Scott, the first coach in Hornets history to receive the honor, led the franchise to its first Southwest Division title and a franchise-best 56-win season. Scott guided the team to an 18-game improvement over last season.

(ASHLAND, Ore. ) - Jordyn KurtzSouthern Oregon University's softball team, last in team ERA in the Cascade Conference, has added a standout pitcher from Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington to their roster for next season.

As a high school pitcher at Stadium, Kurtz currently is 10-0 on the season. She has an ERA of 0.47 and in 60 innings pitched, has 8 shutouts, 1 no-hitter, 2-one hitters and 2-two hitters.

Oregon Trio Wins Player of the Week Honors

Rachel Yurkovich broke her own Pac-10 and Oregon javelin records with a throw of 191-01.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - oregon track trioOregon's Andrew Wheating, Nicole Blood and Rachel Yurkovich have been honored as Pac-10 athletes of the week for their performaces at the Oregon Relays, presented by Oregon Community Credit Union, the conference announced Monday.

Wheating, a sophomore from Norwich, Vt., won the mile Saturday night at the Oregon Relays in a time of 3:58.16. Converted to a 1,500 meter time of 3:39.96, it ranks as the top mark in the Pac-10 this season and second nationally.

The Lakers got past Denver, 107-101, and now it's on to the Western Conference semifinals.

(ATLANTA) - Joe JohnsonThe Boston Celtics had the best record in the NBA in the regular season, but that doesn't matter to the Atlanta Hawks, who have won Games 3 and 4 at home to pull even in their first-round series.

After starting the game on a 16-3 run, the Celtics cooled down as Atlanta secured a 97-92 home win in Game 4 on Monday. On an off night for rookie Al Horford, Joe Johnson and Josh Smith combined for Atlanta's final 34 points. Johnson led the way with 35 points and six assists, while Smith chipped in 28 points, six rebounds and seven blocks.

Riley Steps Down as Heat Coach; Oregon Native Takes Over

Riley ranks third on the NBA’s all-time regular season list, compiling a 1,210-694 (.636) career mark in 24 seasons as an NBA head coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Miami Heat.

(MIAMI) - Erik SpoesltraMiami Heat President and Head Coach Pat Riley announced this afternoon that he has decided to step down as Head Coach of the Miami Heat, but will continue to serve as team President.

Heat Managing General Partner Micky Arison and Riley jointly announced that former Assistant Coach/Director of Scouting Erik Spoelstra has been elevated to head coach. Spoelstra just completed his 13th season as a member of the Heat staff and his seventh in the role of Assistant Coach/Director of Scouting where he had the primary role of developing game plans for upcoming opponents.
