Oregon Trio Wins Player of the Week Honors

EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon's Andrew Wheating, Nicole Blood and Rachel Yurkovich have been honored as Pac-10 athletes of the week for their performaces at the Oregon Relays, presented by Oregon Community Credit Union, the conference announced Monday.

Wheating, a sophomore from Norwich, Vt., won the mile Saturday night at the Oregon Relays in a time of 3:58.16. Converted to a 1,500 meter time of 3:39.96, it ranks as the top mark in the Pac-10 this season and second nationally, and is also 11th all-time among Oregon milers. He’s the first native of Vermont to run a sub-4:00 mile.

Blood, a sophomore from Simi Valley, Calif., ran the fastest 1,500 meter time in the Pac-10 this season with a clocking of 4:18.55 Friday at the Oregon Relays. Her time ranks sixth nationally, and is the seventh-best time in Oregon history. Blood also owns the Pac-10’s best time this season in the 5,000 meters, 15:43.82, ran last week at the Mt. SAC Relays.
