Willamette Outscores Occidental, 48-33, in First Round of NCAA Playoffs

Goltz completed 35 of 50 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns, but was intercepted twice. Both interceptions occurred in the second quarter.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Willamette University defeated Occidental College, 48-33, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 22nd at McCulloch Stadium. Willamette was led by senior flanker Merben Woo (Salina, CA/North Salinas HS/Hartnell College), who scored three touchdowns during the game.

The Bearcats will host defending national champion the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a second round game on Saturday, Nov. 29th. Game time at McCulloch Stadium is set for 12 p.m. (PST). UW-Whitewater defeated St. John's University (Minn.), 37-7, on Saturday, after holding a slim 9-7 lead at halftime.

Bulldogs Outplay Boxers

University of Montana Western defeated Pacific University 62-50.

(LA GRANDE, Ore.) - The Bulldogs of University of Montana Western led the entire first half, over the Boxers of Pacific University at the Quinn Holiday Classic.

The Bulldogs led 35-26 going into the half. Montana Western came out with the same intensity to start the second half, hitting a three-pointer to open the half. They continued to hold the Boxer's scoreless until Pacific University's Erica Schultz hit a shot at the 16:30 minute mark.

Corban: Steigleman's Double-Double Helps in Win Over Simpson

With the win, Corban evens its overall record at 2-2 on the young season. On the other hand, Simpson falls to 1-9 overall this season.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Freshman Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) scored a season and game-high 25 points to go along with a game-high tying 10 rebounds, as Corban's women's basketball team defeated Simpson, 84-75, Saturday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

In the Warriors' home opener, tenth-year head coach Terry Williams took his squad onto the floor knowing that they had beaten Simpson just over a week ago to open its season in Northern California.

Mens Basketball: Concordia 72, George Fox 58

Balanced Cavs build big lead to beat Bruins.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - With four players scoring in double figures and another just missing with nine points, the balanced Concordia University-Portland Cavaliers established a big first-half lead and spoiled the home opener for the George Fox University Bruins with a 72-58 men’s basketball win Saturday night here at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.

Concordia took an early 4-0 lead on baskets by Steven Vaughn and Sergio Rosario, but the Bruins rallied to take their only lead of the game at 7-6 just over four minutes into the game. Chico (Calif.) College transfer Jack Martin did all the damage for the Bruins, canning two jumpers and a three-pointer. The Cavaliers regained the lead with a 7-0 run, sparked by two buckets and a free throw from Matt Ochs, and never trailed again.

WOU Men's Basketball Saint Martin's 93, Western Oregon 89‏

The Western Oregon men's basketball team will continue its early season homestand next week as it takes on Linfield, Saturday Nov. 29th at 7:00 PM.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - In a game which saw 11 ties and 11 lead-changes, Saint Martin's was able to sneak by Western Oregon 93-89, to capture the championship at the WOU/Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout Saturday, Nov. 22nd.

The game was back-and-forth throughout as neither team ever held a lead larger than six points. Western Oregon committed 27 turnovers in the game but kept it close as it outrebounded SMU 40-34.

The loss was the first of the season for Western Oregon as it drops to 2-1. The victory improved the Saints record to 5-2.

MBB - College of Idaho 91, Willamette 59

Bergerson had 13 points in the victory, Jordan Stokes and Kelvin Potts each scored 12, with Bryan Champ adding ten points and four steals.

(CALDWELL, Idaho) - Craig McGee led five College of Idaho players in double figures with 25 points and 11 rebounds, as the Coyotes ended a season-opening four-game losing streak with a convincing 91-59 victory over Willamette in the 22nd Annual Duane Wolfe Memorial Golden Rule Shoot-Out at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The junior had 17 points in the first half, including a key rebound and put back during a 10-0 run to end the first half, as the Coyotes (1-4) built a 44-26 lead at the break.

Beavers Lose in Five to Washington State

Oregon State heads to the desert next week to face Arizona State and Arizona.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Sophomore Kiersten Sambrailo (Watsonville, Calif.) had a strong all-around match with five kills, six digs and a team-high seven blocks, but Oregon State fell to Washington State in five sets on Sunday afternoon.

Set scores were 17-25, 25-15, 25-21, 24-26, 12-15.

“We, if anything, did two things poorly – one, our hitters made too many errors and the other is that we didn’t control the ball like we should,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We are really up against the wall. But we just really have to get back in it and go after the Arizona schools and focus on the next match.”

Talisa Rhea Sets Pac-10 Three-Point Record As Beavers Roll Past Sacramento State

The Beavers (1-0 overall) opened up an early lead and never looked back and took a half time lead of 51-18.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Oregon State sophomore Talisa Rhea set the Pacific-10 Conference record for three-pointers Sunday, knocking down 10 in the Beavers’ 100-45 victory over Sacramento State at legendary Gill Coliseum. The game marked the regular season opener for the Oregon State women’s basketball team.

Rhea posted the fourth-most points in school history with 42 points set two Pac-10 records; the 10 three-pointers and 19 three-pointers attempted. The last player to set the Pac-10 three-pointer record was Stanford’s Molly Goodenbour in 1992 against Tennessee.

Bearcats Advance to #6 in Final Regular Season D3Football.com Top 25

WU Wins NWC Title, Qualifies for NCAA Playoffs.

(SALEM, ORE.) - Willamette University's football team is 10-0 at the end of the regular season for the first time since 1997. The undefeated Bearcats have moved up four spots in this week's D3Football.com Top 25 and are now #6 in the poll of coaches, sports information directors and media representatives.

Willamette, which won the Northwest Conference championship with a 6-0 record, will host Occidental College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs at McCulloch Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 22. Game time is set for 12 p.m. (PST). Occidental, ranked #13 this week with a 9-0 overall record, won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title at 6-0.
