Winter Hawks Sign Aaron McGill from Salem, Oregon

The 18-year old forward impressed coaches and management as a non-roster invitee in training camp and will join the Winter Hawks this season.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Winter Hawks logoThe Portland Winter Hawks signed Salem, Ore. native, Aaron McGill, to a Western Hockey League player contract in a meeting this morning.

McGill was "speechless" when management informed him that he had made the team.

"I live here, so it has been a lifelong dream of mine to play for the Winter Hawks in front of my friends and family," McGill said.

Dodgers Call Up Former UP Pitcher Eric Hull

With the 51’s this season, Hull posted a 4-2 record with 11 saves and a 2.74 earned run average.

(CHICAGO, Ill. ) - Eric Hull photoThe Los Angeles Dodgers have recalled former University of Portland pitcher Eric Hull from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The right-handed Hull has made three appearances on the hill for the Dodgers this summer.

In 4.1 innings, the native of Yakima, Wash., has struck out four, while surrendering three earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Corban Wins CCC Volleyball Game Due to Forfeit

The Warriors will will return to the court on Saturday, September 8th, and go head-to-head with the Eagles of Northwest University.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - corban sports logoDue to injuries and sickness, The Evergreen State College’s volleyball team was unable to field a sufficient number of players for Friday’s match against Corban and forfeited the contest as announced by the Cascade Collegiate Conference Commissioner's office.

The match scores for the forfeits will be 3-0 (30-0, 30-0, 30-0).

With the win, Corban improves to 3-3 overall, 1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Western Oregon Sweeps Central Washington

WOU opens GNAC play with home victory over CWU.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - wou sports logoWestern Oregon used a balanced attack and a .308 hitting percentage to roll to a straight-games victory over Central Washington in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball opener for both teams.

The Wolves rolled past the Wildcats 30-21, 30-28, 30-24 to move to 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in GNAC play.

Central Washington, picked to finish third in the conference this season, fell to 1-9 overall and to 0-1 in the conference.

Oregon - Fresno State Kickoff Changed

A limited number of standing room tickets remain available for the game against the Bulldogs.

The game, originally scheduled for 3:30 p.m., was pushed back by 30 minutes to accommodate the live Oregon Sports Network telecast.

Oregon Looks to Send Wolverines to 0-2

I-AA Appalachian State shocked the world last Saturday by beating the Wolverines at Michigan Stadium, 34-32.

(ANN ARBOR, Mich.) - Oregon Jonathan StewartOregon travels to Michigan for its lone non-conference road contest of 2007 on Saturday.

Kickoff at Michigan Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m. EDT (12:30 p.m. PDT) and can be seen live on ABC.

The Ducks and Wolverines have met four times previously, the last of which resulted in UO’s only victory in the series, 31-27, at Autzen Stadium on Sept. 20, 2003.

(CINCINNATI) - Cincinnati Bearcats fansStudents rattled the metal signs on the facing of the end zone bleachers while their black-uniformed Bearcats jogged off the field with arms raised in triumph.

The way these Bearcats are playing, this could be just the start of the racket.

Freshman Marcus Barnett caught a touchdown pass and recovered a blocked punt in the end zone, helping Cincinnati to a 34-3 victory Thursday night.

(NEW YORK) - David Ferrer photoJuan Ignacio Chela of Argentina and David Ferrer of Spain are primarily known for their abilities on clay courts, but on Thursday, one of these two pushed through to the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time – on the hard courts of the US Open.

Changing from slow clay to a quicker surface is something that many South American or European players have a difficult time adjusting to, but Chela and Ferrer have shown their versatility during the past two weeks.

Today, it was Ferrer who proved he was the better player on the faster hard courts, which rewards a more offensive style of tennis. Ferrer’s aggressiveness paid off, winning 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
