Portland State Sweeps Idaho State in Conference Opener

Viking sophomore outside hitter Jennifer Oney had the match-high of 13 kills and hit .355.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Dominique FradellaThe Vikings (7-4, 1-0) swept the Idaho State Bengals (3-8, 0-1) in the volleyball conference opener, 30-25, 30-17, 30-20. Thursday night marked only the second time Portland State opened-up conference play with a win.

The Vikings totaled 51 kills on 119 attempts (.294). Portland State held Idaho State to only 37 kills on 113 total attacks (.177).

PSU collected 13 service aces on the match, while giving up none to the Bengals.

Western Oregon Rallies to Stun Seattle in Five Games

The Wolves improved to 3-0 in the conference and to 6-4 overall with the win.

(SEATTLE) - Nikole ThompsonWestern Oregon rallied from a 2-0 deficit, and then rushed back again from a 14-13 trail in the fifth game to post a stunning comeback victory on the road over Seattle University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action.

The Redhawks looked to make short work of the Wolves at the Connelly Center, busting out to a quick 2-0 lead.

But Western rallied to win close encounters in games three and four, setting up the deciding fifth match.

Bearcats Fall to George Fox, 3-1

George Fox improved its overall record to 3-1, while WU fell to 1-2.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Michelle NoelkeAmber Stevens scored two goals for George Fox University to lead the Bruins to a 3-1 victory over Willamette University in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams on Thursday.

Stevens opened the scoring at 26:03 on an unassisted goal.

The Bruins increased their advantage to 2-0 later in the first half, when Kirsten Cardwell scored on an assist from Jessica McMorran at 40:55.

Walla Walla University Upsets Corban in Five Games

With its 2007 non-conference schedule complete, Corban finds itself at 4-5 overall.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Margo WyattFreshman Kristen Eiler recorded a match-high 12 kills and junior Margo Wyatt extended her consecutive streak of 15-or-more digs to five straight matches, but Corban's women's volleyball team dropped a heart-breaking five-game match, 3-2 (23-30, 29-31, 30-18, 30-18, 10-15), to the visiting Wolves of Walla Walla on Thursday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

This is the first win for the Wolves against any Warrior volleyball team dating back to the 2001 season when then-Western Baptist began the series with back-to-back wins over their National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) affiliated opponent.

The videotaping came to light after a camera was confiscated from Patriots video assistant Matt Estrella while he was on the New York Jets' sideline during New England's 38-14 win last Sunday at Giants Stadium.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Blazers greg odenAn exploratory arthroscopic surgery performed on Greg Oden today revealed cartilage damage to the Portland Trail Blazers rookie’s right knee.

Recovery time from micro fracture surgery varies from person to person, but generally takes between six and 12 months for full recovery.

Oden is expected to be on crutches for up to eight weeks.

Oregon State Runners Head to Hawkeye Invitational, Willamette Open

At the Willamette Open Oregon State will be competing against Willamette University, Whitworth and Pacific.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - OSU runnersOregon State women’s cross country will open the 2007 season this weekend in two locations.

Fourteen runners are headed to the Hawkeye Invitational at the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City, Iowa, for a 3,000 meter race at 8:30 a.m. CDT on Saturday.

Nine other Oregon State runners will be competing Saturday in Salem at the Willamette Open hosted by Willamette University at Bush Park for a 5,000 meter race at 2:30 p.m.

George Fox Downs Bearcats, 3-1, in NWC Opener

GFU improved to 3-3 on the season, while WU dropped to 2-2-1.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - george fox logoGeorge Fox University took the lead against Willamette University on an own goal at 64:56, then added an insurance goal roughly seven minutes later, as the Bruins defeated the Bearcats, 3-1 Wednesday at Morse Field, in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams.

Willamette gave up the own goal just 31 seconds after the Bearcats tied the game.

WOU women's basketball head coach Greg Bruce and head coach Michael Meek of three-time defending state champion Southridge High School will be speaking.

The clinic will feature discussions by Coach Meek on the art of post play and Coach Bruce on the fast break.
