Ellsbury Named American League Rookie of the Month

He and the Red Sox begin the 2007 postseason Wednesday in a five-game American League Divisional Series against the Los Angeles Angels.

(BOSTON) - Jacoby EllsburyFormer Oregon State outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has been named the American League’s Rookie of the Month for September, Major League Baseball announced Monday.

An outfielder for the American League Eastern Division Champion Boston Red Sox, Ellsbury played in 26 games in September, batting .361 with three home runs and 17 runs batted in.

Oregon State Baseball Airs on ABC Sunday Night

The team spent part of the day helping demolish the previous home by bashing out windows with bats, and helping prepare the location for the new home.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - oregon state baseballMembers of the 2007 Oregon State baseball team will be a highlight of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Sunday at 8 p.m. PDT.

The team helped build a 4,000 square foot home in Lewisburg, Ore., for Rob and Rachel Byers and their 8-year-old daughter, Jenessa, who has a form of childhood cancer and is fighting a recurrence.

Warriors Allen Named Defensive Player of the Week

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Karyn AllenJunior goalkeeper Karyn Allen received her second Cascade Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week award Tuesday, as announced by the conference office, after helping the Warriors to a 2-1 record last week.

The 5-foot-8 net-minder played all 270 minutes between the pipes for the Warriors last week and posted victories against NCAA Division II member Western Oregon (2-1) and fellow CCC member Eastern Oregon (1-0).

Warriors Win Second Annual Capitol Cup Over Bearcats

With the win, Corban improves to 4-5-2 overall, while Willamette falls to 2-7-1 on the season.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - James DelCastilloIn the 2nd annual Capitol Cup game, Corban's men's soccer team defeated cross-town rival and NCAA Division III member Willamette, 3-1, behind first half goals by freshmen Brendan McCornack and Travis Wells, as well as the game's final tally from senior Joshua Crain on Tuesday at Warrior Field.

Following last season's 4-2 win in the inaugural Capitol Cup game played at Sparks Field on the campus of Willamette University, things did not look to promising for the host Warriors this season after falling behind in the game's opening minutes.

Overall, Bicocca went 2 for 2 on field goals and converted 3 of 3 extra points.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Matt BicoccaWillamette University senior place-kicker Matt Bicocca has been named Northwest Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Bearcats' 33-32 victory over 12th-ranked (D3Football.com) Linfield College on Saturday.

Bicocca scored the winning point in a 42-yard field goal with four seconds left in the game.

Zerzan won the Women's 5K Cardinal Race for the second year in a row, as she earned a time of 17:20.15.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Sarah ZerzanWillamette University senior cross country athletes Ian Batch and Sarah Zerzan have been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's and Women's Runners of the Week for action on Saturday.

Batch and Zerzan led the way, as Willamette won the Men's Cardinal team championship and the Women's Cardinal team championship at the 33rd Annual Charles Bowles Invitational Cross Country Meet at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Ore.

Linfield Gets First Win Over Rival Willamette

WU forward Lauren Miller, who scored both goals in the Bearcats' 2-1 win over Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, was held without a shot by Linfield.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - willamette soccer A Martha Inouye penalty kick in the 24th minute proved to be the difference Sunday at the Linfield soccer field as Linfield topped Willamette 3-0 in a Northwest Conference match.

It was the first Linfield victory over rival Willamette since record-keeping first began in 1995. The Wildcats entered the match with a series record of 0-23-1 against the Bearcats.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Tiffany SmithPortland State, while Jessie Chatfield tied Amanda Fox for the school’s career wins record as Oregon defeated the Vikings 2-1 Sunday at Pape’ Field.

Smith, a senior from Eugene, Ore., set up Oregon’s first score in the eighth minute when she feathered a pass up the middle to Teresa Bowns, who beat Portland State goalkeeper Cris Lewis from eight yards out.
