(LOS GATOS, Calif. ) -  Los Gatos High School senior linebacker Kiko Alonso has made a verbal commitment to play at the University of Oregon, his father Carlos Alonso told the San Jose Mercury News.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) -  Martell Webster scored 22 of his 28 points in the second half and the Portland Trail Blazers opened the preseason with a 111-102 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points and six rebounds for the Blazers, while Channing Frye, acquired as part of a draft-night trade that sent forward Zach Randolph to the New York Knicks, had 15 points.

(CONCORD, N.C.) -  Residents of North Carolina's Wilkes County payed homage to their hometown hero, Benny Parsons, by naming a portion of U.S. Highway 421 in honor of the 1973 NASCAR champion.
The "Benny Parsons Highway" was unveiled today during a dedication ceremony.
The five-mile stretch of road runs from the Maple Springs community to the Watauga County Line. "Benny loved his hometown and moving back here meant everything to him. He would be overjoyed by this," said Terri Parsons, Benny's wife. Read Full Article

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ) -  The National Stock Car Racing Commission heard and considered the appeal of Roush Fenway Racing regarding the No. 99 car.
The appeal concerned three penalties issued by NASCAR following post-race inspection on Sept. 23 for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event at Dover International Speedway. Roush Fenway Racing argued that the infraction was due to the failure of a clamp on a jack bolt and that the resulting low rear car height was a performance disadvantage. Read Full Article

The Defensive Player of the Week went to Brian Mehl. He led the Wildcats' with eleven tackles, a four-yard sack and an interception.

(Stanford, Calif. ) -  Tavita Pritchard was named Stanford's starting quarterback for this Saturday's game versus TCU by head coach Jim Harbaugh on Tuesday.
Pritchard made his first collegiate start last Saturday and led Stanford to a stunning 24-23 victory over then No. 1/No. 2 USC at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Pritchard threw a game-winning 10-yard touchdown pass to Mark Bradford with 49 seconds remaining in the game on fourth-and-goal.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) -  Junior Chelsea Reeher recorded a match-high 15 kills, as Corban's women's volleyball team avenged an earlier season loss to the Cavaliers of Concordia with a 3-1 (26-30, 30-24, 30-24, 30-28) victory Tuesday night to remain unbeaten on the road this season.
Corban remains undefeated (6-0) away from the Capitol City this season including a season sweep in the Rose City thanks to wins over Cascade, Warner Pacific, and Concordia.

(SALEM, Ore.) -  For the second time this year, junior goalkeeper James DelCastillo was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as the 5-foot-11 net-minder helped lead Corban to a 3-1 victory over cross-town rival Willamette in the Capitol Cup game.
So far this season, DelCastillo has allowed a mere nine goals in 565 minutes and 30 seconds and leads the team with a 1.43 Goals Against Average (GAA).
