Seven Former Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Headed to World Series

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Salem-Keizer Volcanoes LogoThe San Francisco Giants are sending seven (7) former Salem-Keizer Volcanoes players to their first World Series. The list includes: Tim Lincecum (’06), Sergio Romo (’05), Jonathan Sanchez (’04), Travis Ishikawa (’02-’03), Pablo Sandoval (’05), Nate Schierholtz (’03) and Buster Posey (’08), they all started their professional careers with the Volcanoes. Other Volcanoes who are currently with the Giants, but were not included on the Giants’ 25-man post season roster, include: Ryan Rohlinger (’06), Emmanuel Burriss (’06), and Dan Runzler (’07).

(REDMOND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com SportsJacob Simonson (Fr., Fairview, OR/Reynolds HS) from Willamette University tied for 12th in the final individual standings at the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Fall Classic, which ended on Sunday, Oct. 24 with the second round of play at Juniper Golf Course. Simonson, who was one of four golfers to card a two-day total of 163, shot 78 in the first round and 85 in the second round.

(PULLMAN, Wash.) - Oregon DucksSenior forward Jen Stoltenberg scored two goals, tying the school record for career points in the process, in leading the University of Oregon soccer team to a 3-1 road win over Washington State on Sunday in Pullman, Wash.

After falling behind 1-0 in the 23rd minute, Oregon rallied to score three unanswered goals in the 28th, 63rd and 64th minutes for the victory. The Ducks improved to 5-8-3 overall and 1-3-1 in Pac-10 Conference play, while WSU dropped to 6-11 on the year and 1-5 in league action.

“It was a good game in very difficult conditions,” Oregon State women’s soccer head coach Linus Rhode said following the match. “It was pouring and freezing all day but we made some adjustments to our game to deal with it.”

Willamette is now 6-8-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the NWC. Puget Sound is now 13-1-2 overall and 10-1-1 in the NWC.
