(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Bonnie King and Dr. Phil Leveque discuss an article in Portlands Willamette Week Medical Marijuana has been part of Oregon's legal system for many years. It was approved twice by voters here and by all accounts, patients are increasingly finding relief in this natural herb, one of the only substances that helps people with debilitating illnesses avoid using and possibly becoming addicted to hard drugs.

The success of the Oregon Medical Marijuana program however, is a constant grating issue to some.

That question regards something that Dr. Leveque, a WWII Combat Infantryman, knows a great deal about... Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Leveque discusses the relationship between PTSD and cannabis as a treatment. It is something he may have more experience with that any other living human being.

Newberg-Dundee Police Catch Alleged Rapist-Kidnapper

A Newberg man was arrested following an investigation into a report he allegedly abducted and attempted to rape a woman.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Handcuffs 29-year old Ignacio Benito-Bejarnano, of Newberg, was arrested Wednesday evening, and charged with second degree kidnapping and attempted first degree rape. Second degree kidnapping is a Measure 11 (mandatory minimum) crime. Attempted first degree rape is not.

The investigation began early Wednesday after the woman called police and reported that while driving away from delivering her children to a babysitter, she was confronted by Benito-Bejarnano, who had apparently hid in the back of her van.

California Flames Destroy 49 Malibu Homes

Flea, bass player for the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, told the Los Angeles Times that his home had been "burned to a crisp."

(MALIBU, Calif.) - malibu california For the second time in just over a month, fire is racing through the Malibu Canyon, and for the second time, residents were forced to flee. Officials say that as of Sunday morning, the fire was 40% controlled with no further homes in imminent danger.

Forty-nine homes have been destroyed, another 27 damaged, up to 10,000 people evacuated and 4,650 acres burned in the fire which has been determined to have been caused by humans.

Tim was a News Photojournalist/Reporter for the Las Vegas Fox station when he left to produce this entertainment program with his wife and co-producer, Bonnie King, who worked simultaneously as the Production Manager for KVWB (WB LasVegas) KFBT Channel 33 where "Hot Wheels in Las Vegas" aired.

One man wants to know what a person has to go through in order to become a medical marijuana "caregiver." Leveque says a person can be a caregiver under Oregon State Law if a patient lists them that way. Every patient is entitled to a caregiver, and the person can then transport marijuana legally and grow it on behalf of the patient.

A clever, if not distasteful satire of General Petraeus’s name was probably expected to raise a few eyebrows and provoke thoughtful, conscientious political conversations, but has turned into a would-be national atrocity. For the first time in our lifetimes, a newspaper ad has Congress by the tail, but the message seems to get louder each time it’s repeated.

Bonnie King`s career is unique, she is one of the few media professionals who has extensive time in four relevant areas; radio, television, newspaper and Internet. She has been with Salem-News.com since August 2004.

Her television career began in 1988, at Lincoln City, Oregon`s cable TV station, TV 10, in dual roles as News Anchor and Sales/Promotion Director. This was a natural evolution of her journalistic aspirations, since she was first "bit by the bug" while serving as Editor in Chief of her high school yearbook for two years. She graduated from Bassist College in Portland, Oregon in 1986.

Bonnie has interviewed legends like Aaron Spelling, Hugh Miles and Peter Frampton; Nadia Komenich, the feisty Judge Mills Lane, and the stars from CHARMED, FELICITY, ROSWELL, 7TH HEAVEN and BUFFY the VAMPIRE SLAYER. She has interviewed Oregon`s governors and congressmen, and she was part of the award-winning NBC news crew that first spoke to Evander Holyfield the night of the notorious Tyson ear-biting incident.

Her first full length documentary, `Fallen Fortress at Cape Lookout` aired on Oregon Public Broadcasting in 1993, for which she was the Producer. She is presently working on two Oregon based historical documentaries, and is an integral force in civil and human rights causes.

Bonnie has served in a number of positions in the broadcast industry; TV Production Manager at KVWB (Las Vegas WB) and Producer/Director for the TV series "Hot Wheels in Las Vegas" (2 seasons); TV Promotion Director for KYMA (NBC), and KFBT (Ind.); Asst. Marketing Director (SUPERSHOPPER MAGAZINE); Director/Co-Host (Coast Entertainment Show); Promotion Director (KBCH/KCRF Radio); and, Newspapers In Education/Circulation Sales Manager (STATESMAN JOURNAL NEWSPAPER).

Bonnie has a depth of understanding that reaches further than just behind the scenes, and that thoroughness of her nature is demonstrated in the perseverance to correctly present each story with the wit and wisdom necessary to compel and captivate viewers.
