Sep-26-2006 23:50TweetFollow @OregonNews Senate Democrats Share Governor’s Commitment To Making Healthy Kids a Top PrioritySalem-News.comChildren’s Health Committee will vote on comprehensive kids health plan in October.
(SALEM) - Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson (D-Gresham) Chair of the Senate Committee on Children’s Health, released the following statement late Monday in conjunction with the Governor’s announcement of the Healthy Kids Plan: “After months of hard work and multiple bill drafts, I am pleased to announce that our committee will vote in October to introduce legislation that will guarantee affordable health care for all children in Oregon. “The committee bill, which has been developed in close consultation with the Governor, will create the Healthy Kids Program by combining existing resources with a new pooling plan, and by establishing a dedicated account in the state treasury for children’s health. The account will be funded through an increase in the tobacco tax, which Senate Democrats join the Governor in supporting to ensure every child in Oregon has health care coverage. “Today, there are 117,000 uninsured children in Oregon, and 60,000 of those children are already eligible for existing programs, but not enrolled. The Healthy Kids Program will remedy that situation by streamlining and simplifying the enrollment process and maximizing our use of federal match dollars. The plan will also provide much needed assistance to the tens of thousands of additional children who are neither eligible for nor enrolled in current programs. “Earlier this year, when Senate Democrats announced their legislative agenda for 2007, we made children’s health care a centerpiece of our commitment. Today, we are pleased to join the Governor in taking another important step toward fulfilling that commitment.” Articles for September 25, 2006 | Articles for September 26, 2006 | Articles for September 27, 2006 | Quick Links

Breeders suck September 28, 2006 8:15 pm (Pacific time)
I agree that people need to pull heads outta their butts and plan financially for kids. Cant afford em? DONT BREED! However, a kid should never be penalized for an adults stupid planning abilities. They have a right to be taken care of, if not by responsible adults then someone who can. As a society it is our responsibility. Now figuring out how to best do that is a big challenge yet to be done all that well. I can't stand lazy, complacent apathetic welfare leeching breeders.

Steve, That isn't how God meant for people to react. There are the things in life we can't get around, everyone isn't blessed with the same qualities, they have no control over who their parents are, we are supposed to be kind and always rememeber that life is short.

Just plain "Fooey." I grew up on a farm, we did not have health insurance and always paid out own way. When we needed medical attention we went to the doctor/dentist. Any unpaid costs involved were put on our account and theywere paid off as soon as possible. How about families doing the same thing? If you can't afford to pay your way, then it is time to cut back and buy only what you need....AND.....stop having kids. You can't afford the kid(s) you got, don't have more.

Great. Much needed attention to our children who do not have health care. Next step is to try to insure that adults have some health care they can utilize, especially since most small businesses do not carry health care plans, or if they do they are so expensive that employees choose not to participate because it is too much money.
