Seattle's First High Times Medical Cannabis Cup A Smokin' Success!

This cannabis-related event will stand out as one of the best of 2012.

(SEATTLE) - Trans High Corp, aka High Times, hosted their "First Annual" Medical Cannabis Cup Awards in Seattle, Washington on the 14th, 15th & 16th of September, which was a delightful event indeed and one I was happy to have been invited to, and able to attend on a personal level.

Richard (Rick) Cusick, the Executive Director, Associate Publisher and "Editor and Chief" of High Times Magazine founded and hosts all the many cup events. The Cannabis Cups have always been his project and domain within the High Times world, and boy! did he do a WONDERFUL job in Seattle.

I believe Jack would be very happy & proud of Rick, and the success of the Medicinal Cannabis Cup. He would have especially LOVED all the "FREE SAMPLES", lol! Seriously though, Jack Herer would have LOVED to have been there, enjoying the treats and tokes. I think he would have liked the way the Categories were divided, specifically that there was a "Hybrid" category. This was an issue on his mind.

Basically though, all the "Good People" were there... many missing, but still. Everyone had a blast and was blasted enjoyably together, and we all got nailed on MORE than one occasion. You'd expect nothing LESS than the BEST when hanging with Rick or High Times, especially in Seattle of all places.

"More Cannabis HAS been smoked in Seattle collectively than ANYWHERE on the Planet," said Vivian McPeak, Seattle Hempfest organizer, and this year's Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

The event was held at the Fremont Studios at 155 N. 35th Street and took both the huge building as well as the adjoining parking lot of neighboring business "Indoor Grow" horticulture shop just to house the crowds, and that's with a limited amount of guests!

Inside the studio is where all the main "stage" type events took place, with some indoor vending booths. The indoor area was open to all guests. Outside however, over in the adjoining parking lot commandeered for the event, was for VIP's and Washington registered Medical Cannabis Patients ONLY, aka THEE Place ta Be!

This is where the "REAL PARTYING" begins, outside in the parking lot area. All the vendors who have medical and medicated products were housed there, as was the refreshments. We also got to enjoy a DJ out there, which was cool. In all honesty, most of MY time was spent in This Area of the event, lol - I ain't no fool, right!

There were some immaculate strains of cannabis for the smoking. I especially liked the "Dutch Treat", but that's a personal preference I suppose. The Afgooi is always a good toke strain as well, and Williams Wonder is an OG strain that I use in my own breeding program, so you'll hear nothing but raves from me on it.

Panama Red was there, another quality OG strain, and Zilla was impressive for being a new wave strain. Honestly though, we could spend all day naming off ALL the tasty and well-grown strains that were at the cup for the toking. There were so many to choose from, I, like most people, couldn't help but to sample and like them all, even the Cat Piss mixes!

And the oils, Oh my GAWD - the oils were STRONG and EVERYWHERE, some vendors having us try multiple strains of oil per table! People were getting "Nailed" at every turn. I especially enjoyed watching the "virgins" get nailed for the first time. Oil on the nail, for those of you who haven't gotten to experience it yet - are missing out for sure and need to try it as soon as you can, because there's nothing like it to kick your ass so quick and hard as the oil!

Be ready to cough though, for a good 5 minutes at least, and have a drink of something in your hand as soon as you are done - not that it will stop the coughing or anything, but it will help to sooth your throat a bit! Oil globes are truly amazing indeed, what a wonderful creation!

Also too, there were many tools such as bongs and vaporizers fully loaded and waiting for some brave soul to step up and toke - some entered into the cup judging, others just there to get the guests high and happy.

Many of the vendors were dispensaries so Anything your heart desired to buy to take home was there. There were Plenty of various Hash and Kief, and well renoun strains avaliable, and seed banks were on sight with discounted deals for the event. There were even clones and established plants for the buying - no questions asked & Discounted thanks to the event!

I have ALWAYS had a weakness for the Medible Edibles, hee hee hee, what a variety - I wish this was My HOUSE! Cookies and brownies Galore, and there was canna- candy and suckers, and the medicated Peanut Butter Cups, oh my Gawd they were to DIE for! They even had medicated sodas and drinks, oh my!

The Cup kicked off Friday evening with the "Official Opening Night Party" over at 1700 1st Ave. on the South side of Seattle. The doors opened at 8PM with tickets running $40 bucks a head UNLESS you were a VIP - then you got in for FREE!

Bobby Hustle jammed the Reggae. Josh Quest did the electronic music, and the group "Conspirator" rocked the house! THAT, was one hella night and all attendees had a GREAT time!

Saturday, back at the main event site, The doors opened at Noon for we "VIP's", and then 1PM for all the remaining guests and attendees to the event.

At 2PM a "Legalization panel" was held which included such activist speakers as: Jeffery Seinborn, Douglas Hyatt, Alison Holcomb, and David Bienenstock.

Just after the panel was an "Edible Seminar" which was hosted by Elise McDonough, the author of High Times "Cannabis Cookbook".

After Elise's seminar came Dr. Greg Carter for an "Ask the Doctor" session regarding medicinal Cannabis use, followed by "The Cultivation Panel" at 6:30 wrapping up the events of the first day.

On the final day, Sunday, the event started with an "Activism Panel" at 2PM, which included Vivian McPeak, Bonnie Fong, Matthew Hillard, Danica Noble, Jeremy Miller, an David Bienenstock.

At 3:30 the "Dab Panel" began with Weezy Dabs, Daniel DeSailles, Dr. Greg Carter, Selecta Nikka T., and Bobby Black.

After the Dab Panel, we did another session of "Ask The Doctor", again with Dr. Greg Carter, followed by another "Cultivation Panel" at 5:30 with Nico Escondido (star of "Grow Like a Pro" DVD).

THEN, the REAL EVENT began at 7PM...

"The Official High Times Medical Cannabis Cup awards"!!!

During the "Heart" of this event, Mr. Vivian McPeak was awarded the High Times "Lifetime Achievement Award" for all his relentless efforts for the cannabis movement, especially in Seattle, and Washington state!

Vivian has advocated for social rights issues & cannabis liberation for MORE than 2 decades now, demanding proper justice, and is best known for all his work that comes with being Co-Founder of our movements "Biggest Protestival Event Gathering of the WORLD... EVER!", the Seattle Hempfest, which they've run annually for More than 20 Years now!

Vivian is long deserving of such an honor, and it was so nice to see Rick Cusick out of all people, present Vivian with such a special and glorious award.

Viv and Rick are both true from the heart Canna-Family Heroes, and the love and kizmah on that stage for that award was so touchingly energetic, I couldn't begin to properly describe it with mere words!

Overall the event was jam-packed ALL weekend long and everyone had a wonderful time. The samples and free giveaways at the vendor tables were great and everyone there got along peaceably, as our community should!

Ric Smith and Joy Graves

The main focus of a "high" throughout this event was what we call "being nailed", although High Times calls it "being dabbed". Personally I like "getting nailed" a little better~ sounds fun, doesn't it? LOL!

All the "VIP's" and the bracelets above VIP (Competitor bracelets), were given a free cloth bag designed with the High Times cup and event information on it. We also received a T-Shirt of the High Times cup, and a poster announcing the event, and a few other little chotskys, which were very cool!

Vendors were giving out all kinds of free gifts, ranging from hits and getting nailed, to canna-drinks and goodies. They also gave out stickers, pens, pins, lighters, posters and coupons for discounted meds thru the local collectives and dispensaries. Many frisbee's were also thrown out, and there were even cool free gifts like grinders for the taking!

Everyone had an absolute blast at the event and I was honored to have been asked to come. Rick announced, along with Bobby Black, that High Times intends to hold medical cannabis cups like this in Seattle annually, meaning I hope to see all of you there about this time next year!

What a marvelous event indeed - wonderful people, great meds, free gifts, great food, music and vending, and TRUE community Heroes Honoring REAL community Heroes - what MORE could one ask for!

There were no problems or fights, arguments or anything like that, which is always a good thing to be able to say about a cannabis event, it's kinda our point as the cannabis community. It was an uneventful event as far as needing outside "system" intervention.

Heads up, for newcomers: You have to be careful when you're getting nailed ladies and gentlemen, it's extremely more potent than toking regular meds - you will headrush and you will feel like you're coughing up your gut, but then you are Hiiiigh! But, if you take too much, as with the 2 people who needed medical attention - you can get physically ill, vomiting uncontrollably I mean, which isn't any fun at all.

So my advice to you regarding getting nailed, is Respect the oil... and Half the hit if it's your first time, just to make sure you're less likely to feel or get sick - no one likes to be sick, that's why we turn to the medicine, to make us well!

Well, I think that about covers the Overview of the Annual High Times Medical Cannabis Cup event in Seattle, Washington.
